Hey TH! I recently finished building my new pc, though im wondering if my temps are kind of high? I downloaded HWMonitor and when playing a variety of different games i noticed my cpu reach temps over 80 c. Im using the stock cooler because i dont have any plans of overclocking, but im wondering if its getting that hot while playing games, when i render videos and other stuff that uses a lot of the CPU, will there be any danger?
and if there is a danger, can you guys recommend me a CPU cooler for around $30-$40? thanks!

Not having that case, I can't say for sure how easy it will be do install with everything in place. But most modern cases allow for changing the cooler w/o removing the motherboard from the case. Open the back of the case and see if all 4 feet are visible. Those are the holes you will need to use to assemble the 212 EVO's mounting bracket. If you get stuck, find a how-to video online for installing the 212 EVO on an Intel 1150 board.

Personally I always install the cooler on the board before putting the board in the case. But in your situation, the board is already in the case and all wired up. Removing...
Is the system in a tiny case w/poor airflow? Be sure you are reading core temp and not socket temp. Here is the temp requirements for Intel processors: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1800828/intel-temperature-guide.html

But I suspect a poorly mounted stock cooler might be to blame for your high temps. The stock Intel cooler with its push-pin mounting can be troublesome to get installed properly if you haven't done it a couple times before. Look on the back of the motherboard and see if the 4 black push pins are identically expanding their white fingers, locking the posts to the board. Also check that all 4 feet on the cooler are firmly flat on the board. If the cooler is not secure, cooling will suffer.

when i first installed the cooler, all feet were correctly pushed through
what confuses me is when idle, the core temps of the cpu is about 30c. which is a perfect temp
but when i start playing games or other things, it rises up to about 80c
do you think itd be worth purchasing a different cooler?

Is the CPU cooler loud when gaming? The fan profile might be the issue because the stock cooler is decent and should not let the CPU be over 80C.

just went and played counterstrike, hit 82c at its highest
as for the noise, it does get somewhat louder when playing, though overall everything is still quiet and can only be heard if youre actually trying to hear it (if that makes sense haha)
now i just built my pc and id be scared to open it all up again and replace the cooler
but if it has to happen.
thoughts?

It's not hard to replace the cooler. Remove the old one, clean the thermal paste off both surfaces, and put away the old cooler. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100010

Install the new cooler using the thermal paste it comes with, or use something like MX-4: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6J332N5272&cm_re=mx-4-_-35-186-038-_-Product

What is your budget for the new cooler?
good, low cost air cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099&cm_re=212_evo-_-35-103-099-_-Product

hey, so i was told that although the i7 4790k can withstand heat up to 95c, its definitely not healthy for it at all and could hurt longevity, so im gonna replace it to be on the safe side
im buying the hyper 212 evo, cuz it seems pretty easy to install 😛
oh and when i do install it, do i have to take out my graphics card and all that? or can i replace it in the case with everything still installed? thanks!

Personally I always install the cooler on the board before putting the board in the case. But in your situation, the board is already in the case and all wired up. Removing the gfx card may help get your fingers in tight places better. Main thing... take your time. The 212 EVO can be tricky to install if you've never done one before. Done incorrectly, will result in poor cooling performance.
