Recently, my PC has been experiencing issues, and I want to figure out the root cause. I suspect the GPU (about 80% sure), but I’d like confirmation and advice on potential fixes.

For years, I’ve noticed occasional stability issues, specifically a brief video signal cutout that lasts for a split second before returning. These incidents were infrequent and easy to ignore.

However, about two months ago, things escalated after I started playing Warzone and Throne and Liberty. Initially, the games ran fine, but I noticed my PC ran quite hot while playing. I didn’t pay much attention and kept gaming.

Around a month ago, I started experiencing crashes in Warzone, specifically with the error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG, which I believe is related to the GPU not responding. I tried several fixes, including lowering all settings to the minimum, but the crashes persisted. I couldn’t even get past the lobby without the game crashing while loading the map.

I began monitoring temperatures and tweaking fan curves to keep things cooler. Under load, both the CPU and GPU reach about 80°C but never go beyond that.

During this time, the video signal cutout issue has become more frequent. What used to happen a couple of times a month now occurs several times a day. When this happens, the screen briefly turns blue—not a blue error screen, just a solid blue screen—before returning to normal. Occasionally (about five times in the past two months), the screen instead displays white, green, and purple artifacts with sound glitches before recovering.

Another change I’ve noticed is that the blue screen flash now occurs briefly when I wake the PC from sleep.

Interestingly, I can still play other games just fine, even somewhat demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077. However, these crashes and signal cutouts happen randomly throughout the day, regardless of what I’m doing.

Given these symptoms, I suspect the GPU is failing, but I’ve also considered it might be a PSU issue.

What do you think—is it clearly the GPU? If so, is there anything I can do to fix or slow its decline? I know my PC is getting old, and I plan to replace it, but I’d like to make it last at least another year if possible. Or is it likely to fail completely within the next few months?
