Okay, long explination... bear with me.
My computer tower sits on a metal filing cabinet. The tower has rubber feet on the bottom, however a few weeks ago i touched the cabinet and received a static shock. Immediately, my computer screen went blank and I got the message "No Signal Received." No amount of cable-futzing would bring the display back, except when I unplugged the HDMI cable, the screen message changed to "Check Cable Connection." I did a hard re-boot, and everything worked fine.
Now (and this only happens occasionally) when I start a game that requires the display to change resolutions, the same thing happens. Screen goes blank, with "No Signal Received." When messing around with Crysis, I adjusted the resolution (I can't remember to what) and the screen went blank, however after 15 seconds, if you don't confirm the change Crysis reverts to the resolution to which it was originally set. After that 15 seconds, my screen came back on.
This weekend, while doing beta testing for SWTOR, the screen went blank again once I started the game. I rebooted my computer, and the second time I launched the game it worked fine. It seems to be an arbitrary problem.
Does this sound like a problem with my GPU or with my monitor? I have a GTX 460, connected with an HDMI cable. I don't know the model of my monitor, other than it is a Samsung 1080p HD monitor.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated (and again, sorry for the long explination).
