Its my birthday in a few days and i have this old desktop sitting around that i would like to upgrade to play some games on

It is compatible. But don't get CX series from Corsair. Get an EVGA G2/GS like this:

Yes. It is a standard socket. But get the PSU I recommend or some other good PSU, not the one you listed.
