Is nvidia geforce GT 240 1GB GDDR5 (Gigabyte) good for gaming?

my pc spec:
Core 2 quad Q8400 2.6ghz, ram 2 gb DDR3, res: 1360*768 of my 18.5'' monitor and 1440*900 of my 17'' monitor. I have bought and installed nvidia geforce GT 240 1GB GDDR5 (Gigabyte). Will it be good for gaming?

Since you already have it why not try it?
Anyway you should probably be fine with most game at those resolutions. You will have to put medium quality instead of high, but they should still work with no prob.

About as good as a 9600GT was, basically low to medium settings for the newer games and medium to high for older ones.

agreed at that res you can expect to get at least medium settings except, for a hand full of extremely demanding games

To give you an idea...

I played Crysis with my 9600GT (comparable to the GT 240) with medium quality settings @ 1920 x 1200 resolution in Win XP (meaning DX9). I was able to play it fine throughout most of the game except the final battle where the "boss" makes gameplay a bit choppy. With the exception of the final battle, I would say I probably averaged 25 FPS based on my memory.

Thank you friends.....i tried fifa 2010, blur,red alert 3 at highest settings and i did not notice any slowness. do i need to buy a new psu? if needed, a psu of what watt will i buy? i think my current power supply serves 200-300w.

GT 240 uses more or less 41w on full load. You're fine right now.
But if you want to upgrade later with a better gpu, 450w should be fine. 650w if you plan on sli or crossfire.

Just checked your psu. It has only one rail 18a.
Also it's not that good, it can only deliver 350w.
You're fine with the gt240, but if I were you I wouldn't use that PSU for any other high consuming gpu and/or cpu.

Sli and Crossfire is when you put 2 gpus (or more) on the same mobo. Even if your mobo can support this configuration, don't try it with your current psu.

my mobo is gigabyte g41mt-es2l. The current thermaltake is ok with my entire current system?

recommended resolution of my 18.5'' is 1360*768 and of 17'' is 1440*900. will i b fine if playing with these resolutions? the problem of my 18.5" is that some games like fifa10 does not support 1360*768, therefore it does not come up with full wide-screen. res of that 17" is well supported by fifa10.

well as long as you play primarily console ports you'll be fine, i wouldn't expect games that run on xbox or ps3 becoming more demanding anytime soon, and at those relatively low res you should be ok, but you might be left on the dust on a pc exclusive game where demands may continue to rise

I have this graphics card in my dell dimension 9150

Specs:
Pentium d 2.8ghz
3gb ddr2 ram
nvidia gt 240 1gb ddr5
375 watt psu

Ive hade for a few days and i love it. Playing resident evil 5, crysis, and far cry 2 maxed out. its great for starters like me

Well my system is not that good -- nforce 610i motherboard with intel C2D 2.20GHz E4500,2x2GB DDR2 RAM,400W Cooler Master PSU;
and i use the same card just from XFX(which means the memory is not factory overclocked ~1700 unlike Gigabyte gives a 1800 effective)

Still I ran Dirt2 in maxed out in max resolution with 16x CSAA multi-sampling and it ran amazingly swift.
Then I ran Splinter Cell Conviction on very high settings with anti anisotropic set to 16x no AA on 1366x768 resolution and its running very smooth except some cuts in frame rates when your watching the cinematics

Conclusion:Your card will have no troubles playing games and may run even better than mine

Buy a GTS250 if you want some High settings gaming at your resoulutions. But GT240 will do good with low-medium
