For that price I would want bigger SSD's or an extra slot for a regular 2.5inch drive.[/citation]Then look at the pretty pictures, there's a single 2.5" drive bay under the battery, right next to the dual-drive cage.

Nice article. Would love to get a back breaker "weight to carry" one like this, might just be worth it for all the traveling I do.
Now that is what I call a laptop "mind your legs, (heat / weight) MEDIC ! "

APPLE CATCH A HINT FROM CLEVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT IS WHY I DESERTED "THE FORMER TECH LEADER" APPLE LAPTOPS / APPLE HARDWARE "POWERBOOK G4" AGES AGO.

So basically most laptops cpu's is the major bottleneck and the lack of real laptop video cards contribute to poor laptop performance.
Very surprised with the NV480SLI performance even though the CPU bailed it out.

Would the Alienware ATI5870 Xfire do better with a real cpu ?

Compared to a desktop with NV450 in sli ?
Is a NV450 what in desktop video card "INTEL / ION IGP" equivalent ?

So for that price $5K you can build how many desktops that is also partially portable / less convenient / non airline in cabin friendly with same or better performance ?

Airlines ? what will TSA do when they see this thing on X-Ray and how much money / time spend to get permission to fly with this thing and not get locked up, would it be forced to go with other "lost luggage" below cabin luggage ?

Had issues with a raid HDD enclosure + 2 hd's in 2005 in several international airports so this must be a flying pain.

Wonder why the lame Intel ssd's are used and not some real slow "Write: up to 275MB/s" newegg SSD's that can perform ?

Intel 80gb SSD's ??????
# Sequential Access - Read: up to 250MB/s
# Sequential Access - Write: up to 70MB/s

I think the niche for this computer is: user who really needs a desktop, but needs a computer that can be occasionally moved and fit into carry-on luggage. 17 pounds is like 3 thick textbooks stacked on top of each other...good lord.

Its designed for server environment, say when server hardware needs maintenance there is something to replace it or even a technician to virtualise a set up on site.

Honestly there is nothing really wrong with the X7200 beyond size. Everyone is looking at this review all wrong. This is the maximum configuration. IN fact the unit can be had for a very reasonable laptop price for what you get. People are forgetting it is a DESKTOP processor based laptop. You dont have to guy the 1100 dollar 980X which is already a silly decision in a desktop. Stick a 920/930/950 in there for 25% of that cost and get a really powerful laptop as well. I will give you an example.

I priced the X7200 out with a i7 950 3.06Ghz 4 Core/ 6GB Triple Channel DDR3 / 3 x 7200RPM 500GB HDD / SLI GTX460M / 802.11ABGN / Battery / 1 Year parts and labor / and everything else the same and came up with ~2630 dollars. That isnt bad for what would still trounce about anything else out there and still be very portable.

For what you are getting that isnt really that bad. Add 720 dollars if you move to SLI GTX480M's.

Of course in all of this, you still have a niche computer segment, but within a more reasonable target. There are definitely those that would find value in it and not be crazy. Everyone knows you have to pay to make something smaller in most cases where technology is concerned. Next we will be comparing the fact that the PSP is a bad value because the PS3 is so much more capable. Give me a break. Sure you can spend your money a bit more wisely, but sometimes you just want to take it with you in a convenient package. Desktop systems and 22 inch monitors (the size you would need to get in most cases to get 1920x1080) arent convenient to fit on a plane for instance. One of the big reasons I owned a Clevo 570RU and would buy another.

I've had mine for just over a month, its an amazing machine, it runs everything i throw at it effortlessly, (ive never tripped the PSU), its not as ugly as people are suggesting here. I like how i can user replace components, like I can put in the soon to be released 995x Extreme i7, upto 24gb ram, upto 4TB of HDD.
I run a full sized keyboard, a 23" External monitor and when i need to go away on business i just pullout the plugs and away i go. I wanted a DTR, i didnt care about battery life thats not its purpose. This is an amazing beast! Everyone I know that owns one of these absolutely loves it and would buy it again.

It takes a maximum of 4 HDD, upto 4TB, YOu could put in 4x512 SSD if you wanted, I have 2x 500 hybrids and Im putting in a 1TB for storage, I have a blueray in the other bay. All user upgradeable.

Nice... good to see hardware pushing the envelope.

Everytime I start to get interested again in a gaming laptop, I see the comparison to a desktop and run screaming away. For my uses, I can transport a PC, save thousands, and game well.

Still frickin' neat... maybe next gen.... my last laptop was a Dell XPS Gen 2, with a 6800 oooh... ahhh. LOL.

It's funny how many people freak out about the high cost of a professional system like this. I have a 2-1/2 year old Sager NP9262 I paid over $5K for. Most people think that's unreasonable and try to compare it to the $600 HP they can get from big box mart. But I use mine every day and it has not failed me once. It also has had >$250,000 billing done by the work it has hellped me perform. I use it for application design and is the main equipment for my business. SO, $5K is not a big deal for a machine of this type.

I'm impressed just that they managed to squeeze the most powerful desktop platform into a notebook form factor. It's the best gaming laptop I've seen so far, but personally, I think that market is a bit oxymoronic.

You just don't get enough bang for your buck to make high end laptops viable. For that price, you could get an awesome desktop gaming machine with 4x the graphics muscle, a 3D surround monitor setup, sound system, desk, chair, keyboard, mouse, mousepad, and a netbook for doing traditional laptop-type stuff.

I have the same mentality as well...just get a damn desktop. Example, my GF's two friends wanted a nice "gaming" laptop and I gracefully made decent recommendations on a couple Asus laptops for a fair price (around $1000). Now, although I don't see these two often, I'm fairly certain one of them plopped the laptop on their desk and I've never really seen it move anywhere else since then. Granted, she has a room chock full of crap (she collects, well IMO garbage, like rubber balls, figurines, etc) but really a desktop shoved on the side of the desk would have gracefully served the same purpose. Get a nice flat panel monitor and she would actually save desk space as opposed to this monster 17/18" laptop. Whatever, their money, their choice (be it less than ideal).
