Based on the GAMING results the i7-7700K isn't far behind on average, so you'll need to wait for an i5-4690K at 4.5GHz (or close) to see how that compares to most games so you can decide if the upgrade is worth it.
I do expect some games to utilize a lot more CPU in the future, but is there enough justification to upgrade yet?
I agree
Right, and as per the i5-8600K being out of stock even if you decided to upgrade now what's the rush? Wait a couple more months for motherboard BIOS updates and customer feedback on motherboards (to indicate reliability).
Asus TUF series motherboards for example get sent to a non-ASUS company where the motherboard are heavily stressed for I believe 4 weeks, then the issues are compiled and they may go back to the assembly line and fix issues, then repeat the testing on the new motherboards... it might take six months or more to get most of the issues sorted out for maximum statistical reliability (or you might get lucky right off the bat).
I general it's not ideal to be an early adopter for any product. Let other people work out the bugs.
Which reminds me, my 5-year Warranty on my Asus Z77 Sabertooth expires this month, so it will likely fail next month.
