All looks good but I would purchase an OEM windows key for $20 and funnel the money saved into another component or save the money.

Tech deals, on youtube, promotes a site for keys, that they have never had an issue with. You can even get a discount, if you use their promo code. I think Tech Yes City has a site as well. It is still possibly a bit of a gamble though. I have never personally tried them, as I still have plenty of keys left over, from an old technet subscription.

Thats an option, but I am not so sure about them. Can be hit and miss at times, or so I have heard.

I have used them regularly and without issue but you do hear stories of them not working.

As mentioned above there are some larger YouTube channels advertising them - I used a couple from a link on Greg Salazars channel and they were all fine.

I just cannot bring myself to pay full whack for a retail copy when the money saved could used elsewhere.

The other problem with cheap keys is that they are also a cheap way to launder money from stolen credit cards.

In any case, I would definitely try, if possible, to avoid an Intel CPU that has an F in the name. Given the GPU supply and demand issues and an older GPU, you don't want to be left in an awkward situation if something happens with the GPU and you don't have a replacement you can swap in. In Intel's case -- unlike with AMD -- since the comparable processor with a GPU can be like a $20 difference (and in some instances, it's even less), I think it's worth hedging your bets.

Your build will work as is... probably.
The caveat is that while the hyper212 advertises lga1700 compatibility, the lga1700 mounting will come only with new stock. Old stock may not have the mounts.
Some other thoughts:

12400F is a very good processor.
But, for some $20 more, I would opt for the non-F version that has integrated graphics. Testing and setup will be easier, and it is cheap insurance if you have discrete graphics card issues.

In the past, I had trouble figuring out how to mount a hyper 212 cooler.
The only instructions were graphic and unclear.
Perhaps new versions have fixed this.
I now use Noctua coolers like the NH-U12s.
They are top quality and are easy to mount properly.

The psu is a good one that can support a future graphics card as good as a 3070:

On the ssd, you will probably find that a samsung 980 or 970 evo + in 1 tb size costs no more and you would get better sequential speeds.

Without the Windows, you can get a better CPU, that can last you longer, along with the other high quality parts...

Really? I always assumed they were just system builder keys which was why they were discounted. I take it some sellers are more reputable than others?

Most turn a blind eye to the sources of their keys, they are gray market ones. The only actually legitimate sources of standalone copies -- as in not included in a prebuilt -- are Microsoft and their authorized retailers. And that's almost always going to be at or near the normal price.

There are no deeply discounted system builder keys. At best those are gray market keys, reselling volume license keys or Educational licenses individually. At worst, it's straight up money laundering with keys bought with stolen credit cards or other stolen cash and flipped.

One gray market practice that has died off considerably is people buying cheap, legitimate keys for programs and games in other countries and selling them for huge discounts in wealthy countries.

This has had the effect of software companies largely curtailing the practice of less expensive versions in third-world countries. In other words, people in third-world countries have a harder time accessing legitimate software because much wealthier people in much wealthier parts of the world wanted to pay $30 for software that costs $100.

I'm not going to tell anybody what to do. There won't be any cops busting down your door over software your purchased at an illegal discount. In the end, everyone has to answer to their own conscience.

I think not knowing and not caring are two very different things. The points made are appreciated and taken on board.

I think bringing conscience into it is a bit strong though, as that implies prior knowledge of the points made. It was an attempt to maximise the funds available. Wrongly. Yes. Intentionally so. Not at all.

I don't want to clog up the thread and apologies for any unintentional time wasting.
