Is this the reason why my GPU won't work?

my mate gave me a GPU he had lying around and he said he wasn't sure if it worked. When i got home i plugged it into my Test Rig and the system power up the GPU fan was spinning but no signal. So i opened the GPU up and found this.

Is this the reason my GPU won't work?
PS. The issue is left of the fan header

most probably its is a faulty GPU, its powering up but no display nor any kind of signal.

yeah it blew a small resistor, you might be able to find another one a solder it in and give it a try, other then that its a nice paper weight now.

there are no pins on the other side to detach the blown resister.do i just solder the new resister on the top of the blown one?
and what type of resister do you think?

you would have to find the same card that is working and try to figure out what the resister is.

The blown resister is a surface mount one so you would just have to heat up the solder on both sides and pop it off. Then solder in the new one.

try to remove the blown one so that you can solder on whats left of its pins. Have no clue what specs it had but if you find a similar board it should give you an idea. Try google images for starters

if you have a specialty electronics shop near by I would take it to them they will most likely be able to figure it out.

yeah i tried googling myself but i couldn't find anything either
