Question Is upgrade from i5-6500 to i7-6700 worth it ?

I have intel i5-6500 and gtx1650, the only cpu upgrades possible on my pc are intel i5-6600 and i7-6700, do you think its worth an upgrade? (it costs about 100e)

Worth is a very individual thing. From my point of view, that's a lot of money to dump into an incremental upgrade on a platform going on eight years old. If the intention is workstation applications and having eight threads is useful, there's a small argument; if the purpose is for gaming, this would be a very poor upgrade in terms of cost effectiveness.

it is for gaming but i run valorant on 120-150 fps, but when i opet discord and like chrome to watch something or like lisen to spotify, my fps is unstable. So i dont need like some insane specs , i just need stable fps even if 1/2 apps are opened in background. Do you think i7-6700 will do the job?

I would say no. The difference in performance between them will be tiny by today's standards. Intel's 6th-gen is pretty ancient no matter which CPU you have.

Also, there's no way in hell that an i7-6700 is worth €100. It's worth maybe €20. If someone is trying to sell you an i7-6700 for €100, they're a crook who is trying to rip you off.

You should get this instead:
CPU: Ryzen 3 4300 - €58.89
Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX - €50.89
Total: €109.78

Now, that R3-4300 is by no means a powerful CPU. In fact, it's quite weak by today's standards but, according to cpubenchmark.net (Passmark CPU Test), it's a good deal more potent than the i7-6700 and with an AM4 motherboard, you're able to upgrade to a Ryzen 5000-series CPU later (including the R7-5800X3D) without needing a new motherboard. Your existing RAM can be used in this motherboard.

No. If the 6500 is causing unstable fps, then the 6700 isn't enough of an improvement to be a game-changer. And this may be a problem, but it's unlikely to be a CPU issue.

no. after conversion 100euro is about 145$ canadian. you can get a much faster mobo/cpu combo for that price. an old i7 for 100euro is a rip-off.

the increase in strength performance would be minimal. The upgrade is only worth it if you are getting the 6700 for free or very cheap.

how much ram does your pc have? Sometimes increasing ram solves lag in certain games.

Well, technically it may be worth it. It depends whether you're willing to spend that amount based upon the performance increase hereunder.

The question, of course, is what the workload is like. That bump in that last benchmark is basically using software that is close to the ideal situation.

Honestly I’d look into a platform upgrade. Even though AM4 is now dead it’s still a massive leap in performance, used you should be able to get a B550 board with something like a 2700X for around €100-150 whilst being able to move your memory across (if it’s fast enough not to tank performance). This gives you a much better upgrade path up to an 5800X3D for gaming which is a VERY good chip now or a R9 chip if you want more threads. That’s while also giving you a significant upgrade over what you have already.
