Is waiting for AM2 worth it for me?

I am trying to decide if I should wait for the AM2 to come out or redo my system now. I am not a hardcore gamer. I am a power user I guess...I am more concerned w/the ability to multitask than raw speed. I was going to upgrade to an AMDx2 3800+. But would it be worth it to wait for the new socket? Is the reduction in wattage worth it alone...all things being equal? If I don't wait, I can start upgrading now because I could use my "new" ram in my current system (I want to upgrade from PC2100 to PC3200 in anticiaption of my new system.) Otherwise, I can't really upgrade in the meantime and use it in my new system as the AM2 requires DDR2. How much heat/wattage am I really saving with AM2? Do I even wait a little longer for the 65nm chips? HELP!!!

Upgrade now. That way you will have a good system and by the time your ready to upgrade again, AM2 will be mature.

Yes, its worth the wait. I would wait until Intel has their new lineup out. Looks like they're going to be the ones to get later this year.

I would agree, but how do we know that the new chips won't have some minor problems that were overlooked during testing could turn out to be disasterous to one's system. Mabey Im being a little pessimistic, but thats how my system has stayed alive so long.

Same goes for AM2 as it might be loaded with bugs. Diversity is good and everybody needs to know that both companies have new products coming out. As if we don't have enough of those threads.

AM2 was a Sega (miyamoto) Virtua Fighter team..
the people who made the real arcade games the 32x wanted to play but couldn't.
They made some kick ass games for arcades!
M2 was a 3D0 console that never took flight.
A M2
something about that name is old and untrustworthy.
Avoid it at all costs.
Yet again, if you get your hands on it and it's real and it works and they don't kill it in 6 months, then you may be OK.
If it's vapor. Don't touch it.
Wait till you can see it, feel it, hear it.
Demo it, do it,
Patience my man.
