I'll download this thing after- but surely it only does the same as prime95? loads of calculations? I use prime95 for stability testing (amongst other things), is this thing better/worse, also do you get a RESULT of any kind, like how long it took to do whatever it does? I overclock, would this app give an indication of performance?

no... much hotter than prime95.
prime is a generallised program, while toast occupies ALL the pipelines at once... im getting temps 3-4C higher than any other burn in app.

Is that a Northwoody in your pocket or are you just eXPited to see me?

thanks, I'll get it whan I get home, and post results tomorrow after running prime95 all night- 1.4 @1700 2.05V gets to around 42C , I'll be interested to see what happens, I'll let you know.

hmm.. when I get home tonight I'm gonna overclock
my CPU from 1.0Ghz to 1.33Ghz and run this again
overnight.

If its still stable tomorrow, I'll raise the clock
again to 1.4 and see what happens.

Either way, its a very good test to see how high you
can push the chip safely.

Intel Components, AMD Components... all made in Taiwan!

Actually, it roughly gives me the same temps as 4 hours of non stop Return to Castle Wolfenstein. But the temps on my forehead are noticably higher with RTCW, and it really stresses my right arm as well. I think I'm about to crash, as I really feel unstable ;-)

Thanks for the proggy. Makes my CPU scream in pain... well, not really. Anywho, with a stock AMD HSF, A7A266, and MBM5, I got my 1.2@1.266 up to 62C, so I'm not to sure if I want to put the multiplier up anymore. But, since my FSB is at 133, my system is stable... just have to worry about heat mostly... Although, now, after having run Toast, my idle went from 55C to 49C, although that might have something to do with my case being at 23C-24C instead of the more normal 25C. But, I'm happy to report that even with Toast going for 2+ hours in a warm room, my case temp never got above 26C. I love my Antec SX830 case. Thanks again Ray.

News Flash:

Well, I cranked my multiplier up to 10.5, making my 1.2 a 1.4. Apparently, this caused no problems. After a few hours of Toast, the CPU temps reached 64C, which I think is high, but it below the 70C temp limit that AMD publishes. Again, my case temp went no higher than 25C, meaning that the only thing that I think keeps my CPU temps high is my AMD HSF. And, just for gits and shiggles, I ran the Prime95 "torture test" for around 6 hours, and not an issue. Now the question I have is this: Does this mean my CPU could theoretically go higher, if I had a better HSF? I'll post my other OC questions in the correct area, but I did this here since everyone else was. Bridge-jumping? People are doing it? I'm there!

And BTW, I'm a newbie to the whole OC thing, and, well, I'd rather not do anything that requires money (like kill the CPU or other parts from bad OCing), so this is a rather tame OC, I'd think.

ya sure it could, 200 maybe even 400 more with good cooling, you really need and want to push that that high?

im using win2k of course! how else do u think i could run my PC for 4 days straight?
I'm running windows 98se and my typical uptimes are 3-5 days and every so often I'll get a week and some change. And thats not a computer that runs 3 programs and thats it, I'm talking full hard core use (not porn) I play games, do graphics design, seti@home, different instant messaging programs, web browsing, homework. I never had this kind of stability with my via chipset motherboard, the AMD760 is great. BTW my 1400 Tbird @ 1575 is nice and stable, hoping for another one week uptime again

That's good news for those of us who can't, or won't, switch from 98. :)

ok, I ran it, and it does indeed increase the temp a lot more than prime 95 does - ideal for burn ins, but from my messing over the weekend, I wouldnt say that toast can be used for a stability test. I was running my 1400 @ 1700, temps maxed out at about 42C (dunno why- it used to be around 40), ran toast, after about 10 mins it was up to about 46, left it on all night and it hit 52C (this is watercooled btw). decided to up my cpu speed a bit (still trying to get stable higher), ran toast at 1752 and was fine for 20 mins or so, so I ran 3dmark2001 and it locked after a few minutes, rebooted, ran prime95, it stopped saying there were hardware errors- ran toast for another hour or so with no probs. I like the program, but its not a conclusive test of stability.
