After downloading java runtime, I get an error when trying to install. The
program won't install, I get a yellow warning,and a windows installer message
that says: not a valid download, check with the manufacturer. I keep
downloading but same message. I need this program to access cedrtain programs
that use java.

Before re-insalling it have you first uninstalled it from Add/Remove
Programs?

Hello JohnB,

Sorry to be off subject, but I can't seem to start a new question. I click
on "new", then on "question", the screen flickers and I am back to viewing
this post. Obviously I am logged in properly otherwise I wouldn't be able to
reply to your message.

Thanks for your help.

That's OK, Mike. The reason you are having difficulties is that you're
using the web interface to these groups which is rather awful. Set up a
real newsreader and you'll find it much easier. Then post your question
so we can help you. Here's information about that:

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you
learn to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows,
but you can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are
some links to information about newsgroups:

I don't see it installed anywhere in add-remove programs, would it have been
installed with the windows 98 se? I'm using windows xp now, it was the
upgrade version of windows xp, so I just upgraded from windows 98 se, and I
saved all my previous files. Would that create the problem? Thanks for the
help!

Thanks Malke, I set up OE for this newsgroup and will play with it to see if
I can learn to use it.
