I have started this journey to dual boot windows 10 and windows 7.

Pc specs:
msi mpg z490 gaming carbon wifi
I7 10700k
Rtx 3080
32gb ram
250gb nvme windows 10
500gb ssd for windows 7

I have a PC running windows 10 and I would like to install windows 7 on a separate SSD so I can dual boot and play commandos 3, which doesn't work on windows 10, I have tried.

I have a windows 7 iso file, I have mounted it and pressed setup and then click don't install updates as when I do it says can't continue setup so I chose install without updates, which I will install later, then choose ssd, formatted as gpt as normal. Pc restarts and goes to windows setup partition and window logo displays showing windows is starting then freezes and doesn't work.

I tried to change bios to csm and this also enabled fast boot as well for some reason, then I go to windows setup and I get blue screen.

I try to go back to bios by pressing shortcut key on startup and is blank screen, monitor on Pc is still running no display. I reset uefi via troubleshoot and still same, I can't access bios or even boot menu pressing f11 as that is a blank screen.

I need help fix bios and get windows working again.

Someone help.

I've just checked the driver download section on the MSI web site and it only shows Windows 10 and Windows 11.

It's likely the Intel Z490 chipset does not natively support Windows 7 so you'll have to get "creative". See this discussion.

Don't expect full compatibility with all hardware in Windows 7. You might struggle to get everything working.

You could probably run Windows 7 as a Virtal Machine in Hyper-V or VirtualBox, but I doubt the GPU emulation would allow you to run games.

Are you SURE about that?

reset the bios

OK brilliant that worked, I shorted the jbat1 pins and I could go to bios and change the settings.

Now I created multi boot usb with yumi and inserted it into pc and reset and boot from USB and it gets to starting windows and is stuck at this screen.

May have to create a custom window 7 image with latest drivers.

This is one thing I want to avoid. Using virtual machines. There has to be a work around.

I tried the image updater and it says enable csm, but that caused the bios to not work.

Wanted to also play commandos 1 as well. But I tried different commandos 3 versions and it just didn't work. GOG and steam version.

Commandos 2 and 3 remastered work, which is good. But the camera control is bad, reviews are that it is not as good as the original

what other older operating system can I install dual boot where I can play older games on them like commandos ammo pack that work on z490

EDIT: Commandos 1 gog version also works, going to try commandos 2 + 3 gog. lets hope they fixed it.

I still would like to boot into windows 7 just for sake of knowing

what if I plug this hard drive onto another pc with low specs and install windows 7 on it and drivers and then move that hard drive onto my modern pc, will the OS load with the drivers.

EDIT: I just fixed commandos 3 windows 10. for whoever wants to know. download dinput.dll (i got mine from here (https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2435-directinput-1-7-to-8-wrapper/) and place it in to game directory.

You can but try. Although moving operating system drives from one computer to another is not recommended, I've got away with moving Windows 10 SATA SSDs from AMD to Intel Systems and vice versa with no significant problems.

When the OS starts up in a strange system, it does its best to load drivers for all the new components found. You may have to manually update a few by hand. Check Device Manager.

Occasionally the move fails, but it's possible. Of course the best option is to perform a clean install on the machine in question.

Good luck.

But doing a clean install won't work as my motherboard doesn't support windows 7 . It doesn't have the drivers for it.
