My friends PSU died in his computer and usually i have no issues recommending one to anyone, but.. the thing is.. now he's only using a p4northwood.. with a 9800pro and so on.

I kinda want him to get a power supply he can use now.. and for his next build which might be within a year or year and a half. Do you think a 600W would still be alright in a year? I'm sure he'll never go SLI.. and it will be DDR2.. with dual core.. but i don't really know what to tell him. : /

I used calculators and some of the rigs are saying recommended about 550.. 580w.. is that with some added wattage to help it not constantly perform at peak?

I still don't want modular, and i'd like to stray away from Antec. I have had some bad experiences with those power supplies(store bought and Newegg).

Since it's not my computer I would get one, but what i'm saying is.. if the system is using up 80% of the powersupply at all times.. wont that spell disaster for keeping it for at least 3-4 years?

Here's one that will power it with much to spare:

Silverstone ST65ZF

It's only $5 over budget and it will ensure that you are below 80% usage of the PSU most (if not all) of the time although I'm not sure about the maximum combined output on the +12V rail, maybe mpilch can confirm this?

Silverstone is a good manufacterer of power supplies. It also isn't modular.
