Just built a computer and having some issues with the gtx 580

It runs and everything but if I try to plug it into my monitor using the VGA or DVI cables nothing happens. Also, when I try to install the drivers from the website or the CD that came with the graphics card, it tells me I don't have the hardware to download the drivers. This seems to be like a faulty card to me but I just don't want to believe it. Has anyone else had or fixed this problem?

If nothing happens how do you get the no hardware message ? Did you plug in the powercords from the psu in the gpu ? Did you remove old drivers ?

Everything else works fine. The system turns on, all the ram is working, the monitor works, it's just the video card that isn't being recognized. If I try to plug in the monitor to the video card I get no response and the screen turns black followed by a message on the monitor saying "no VGA/DVI signal detected" and when I try to download the drivers for the GTX 580 it basically tells me I don't have a GTX 580 plugged into my PCI express slot x16 (which I do). So it defaults to the on-board intel graphics card (i5-2600k) and it automatically installed the drivers for that. Besides the on-board graphics card, I don't have any drivers.

Hmm - are the extra power plugs properly attached to the 580? 8 Pin, + 6? <-- do not have one, but I believe that is the correct set.

Are there any motherboard settings that require a jumper or switch for the PCIe Slot to work?

When you power on, does the video card fan actually work?

Yeah like stated check that the card has all cables attached to it, sounds like it isnt powered on well. Also you need to plug the card into a PCIe slot ....a normal PCI slot will NOT work. Just making sure. Should be the top slot, also if the card is not properly powered the fan on it should spin at 100% as that is what one of my 580's did when I swapped motherboards and didnt plug it back in.

Yes the fan starts spinning and the cooling system on the card works. I also have all of the plugs attached and I made sure they're PCIe power cables.

Yeah I'm not quite sure the mother board should automatically see it and install it, then update drivers online. What kinda of power supply do you have?

Ok I fixed it, I had a weird extension plugged into my PCIe power cable that shouldn't of been there, after taking that out and directly adding the 8pin and 4+2 pin it worked fine.
