K8N Neo and memory

I have a K8N Neo and two 512 dimm they are not matching but are both
PC400.
The problem is that no matter which slots I put them in if I install
both the DDR timing is 333 167 MHz
If I install them separately they come up as DDR400 201 MHz
I have tried every possible combination according to the manual but if
both are installed DDR timing drops to 333

What gives ?

I was going to get a matching DIMM for the Kingston(It's their high
end part) but now I'm wondering if their isn't something wrong with
the MB and how it handles memory.

They are not matched, and you are unlucky they don't match by chance.

But they're both PC400

Being rated at the same speed and matched are two different
things. See if the default/spd timings are different. They
probably are, and to get both sticks running at the same timings
the board is dropping to a lower speed.

Hmm will I never had that problem before. Any how I went and bought a
stick of Kingston Value ram (no comments please) and when I pair it
with the other cheap stick (which has different timings) I then get
400 FSB. The funny thing is that I have to remove the good quality Ram
Kingston HyperX PC400 stick to get it to go 400.

So even of it was dropping to a lower speed it should have been able
to go 400 since the slowest is one of the sticks I still have in.

In other words I had to drop the high end ram to get better speed ;(

I think I'll put it back in and run with 1.5 gigs of ram instead of 1
gig but at slightly slower speed.

Oh well
Thanks

Did you happen to try thr Kingston Hyper with thr Kingston Value
memory? If so, did it run at 400?

Ya, I'd rather have more ram than slightly higher speed myself.

You're welcome,

I'm thinking the same at this point.
