When overclocking, my usb keyboard wouldnt respond after a crash, so i used an old ps/2 keyboard to OC.

After getting a stable system etc (OC finished), i tried to swap back to the usb keyboard/mouse and they wouldnt respond on startup.

Now whichever keyboard or mouse (USB or ps/2) i try to use it wont work at all. I cant even get into windows now because its asking me what cmos settings i want to restore...

THanks!

First, reset the bios. Second, make sure that the USB is set up in the BIOS. Usually there's an option like "USB Mouse Controlled by: " and the choices are OS or BIOS. Choose BIOS or the usb mouse won't be available until the OS loads. Once everything is working again, then work back up to your OC state. But IMO if something doesn't work on an overclock, then you shouldn't overclock, as the extra strain is obviously affecting something in the system.

Sorry, didnt think you would need them!

MSI K9N SLi Platinum
AMD 4200+ X2
2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400
MSI 7900GT
Maxtor 250GB HDD (sata)
Antec HE 500W PSU
Antec P180 case

EDIT: its running XP Home if you didnt assume that!

I cant even get into the bios, thats why im at such a loss as how to fix it. I dont have ANY means of imput!

Also there is no option in the bios for keyboard and mouse...

Thanks anyway!

EDIT: the only thing i have thought of is to do a clean reinstall of xp.... i really dont want to do that though!

sorry, i didnt explain myself again.

XP loads fine, just i have no input at all! I really have no idea what the problem can be otherwise (drivers???). Anyway i dont want to reinstall xp if i can help it!

Thanks

usb can be using the same clock generator and became overclocked too hahaha that's funny, but i'm serious.
if you dont overclock, does it work?

I've reset the cmos and still no response from K/M.

The K/M i were using were ps/2 and were working fine until i tried replacing the usb K/M (thats after the OC). Are ps/2 K/M affected by OCing?

the first thing i would do is connect both the keyboard and mouse to another computer and see if they work.

Okay, I've tried re flashing the bios and nothing new happened! Other usb devices (flash drives, ipod...) worked fine, so i dont think the mobos broken.

I'm going to try the K/M (USB) in an old USB PCI card, incase the usb controllers onboard have stopped working. Will update when thats done!

oops wrong words then! i meant updating, i thought it was updated with a flash.

Anyway it seems ok now, ive got input again through the PCI usb controller. It is needed on another machine though, and i cant work out the original problem was yet.

Thanks for all the help!

Have you tried the keyboard and/or the mouse with an usb->PS/2 adapter?
I used to have a LED keyboard which was USB, but caused all sorts of problems when used with the USB, but I then tried to use it with an USB->PS/2 adapter and worked fine until i changed it for an Saitek Eclipse.
Also i've read that sometimes OC'ing can cause clock problems as jap0nes mentionned. GL with that.
