LAN question pls help

Hi could you tell me what software I would need to provide the central services on a Local Area Network all I could think of was Windows server 2008? Also silly question.. say I have a file server, web server, dns server etc would these all have the same server software e.g. windows server 2008? or is there different server software for different types of servers?

I got very confused on this.. any help is appreciated!

Windows Server will have all those components, you select what you want to run during installation. For email you'd need Exchange if you go with all MS stuff.
