Hi everyone!
So here is the deal. My laptop is overheating even after a clean up and fresh thermal paste. So i have an idea.
I want to glue a fan to the vent hole from which he is drawing air and hook it up to a USB port via a USB cable. But I know that the 5V from the USB won't be enouth to cool it.

The question is: How to increase the voltage from the USB port so that the fan can spin faster?
Is there a component that can increase the voltage even though the port can only provide 5V straight?

I have another idea you might be interested in. How about a cooling pad? They're pretty good and come in all different size fan or fans. If went this route and wanted to maximize air coming out the top is stick sponge strips on the laptop bottom to seal gaps so all generated air is being pushed up instead of leaking out the sides reducing air pressure.

Cooling pads are powered by usb and most are pretty quiet.

I already have a pad but it's crap and I even tried your idea once with no result (maybe because the pad is shit). And if you say: Why don't you just buy a new one?
Well I am a university student that tries to save a little money for other stuff and besides I already have a fan and usb cable laying around. + It's like a little project of mine so.....

NO, No you didn't offend me in any way, but this Idea of mine has a hole in it. The USB provides only 5 Straight volts. The fan is rated for 12V, so I want to increase the voltage so that the fan is consuming 12V from a USB which provides 5V.
