Hey, I've got an HP G62 laptop which i use for some light gaming such as GTA San Andreas, Sims 3, etc.
The GPU idles at 45~50 ºC which i think its fairly hot, when im watching videos it goes to 68~70ºC and playing goes from 76~84ºC which is absurd and once i was playing sims and it reached 100ºC!

Oh also i burnt down the mobo so i bought another one refurbished and replaced it. Also the cpu fan is always at maximum and i have a ''ghost screen'' even though this post isnt about those problems but if u know how to solve some of those problems post something. 😀
Thanks for your help.

EDIT: i forgot to mention that the GPU is a Radeon 5470 Mobility

I didnt replace it myself i went to a professional, but he cleaned it all

Windows 7 64 bit i didnt think it would be relevant so i didnt put it in the post soz :)

after a quick google, people using Ubuntu/Linux tend to have bugs causing overheating. If you use the laptop on soft surfaces (eg your lap/on a bed) then yes its going to get very hot very quickly as the vents for cooling tend to be on the base of the laptop. If there is no dust clogging the vents and you dont use it on soft surfaces, maybe its just on its way out. The soft surfaces seems the most plausible reason for overheating. When doing casual surfing, being on soft surfaces wont be as apparent as when doing something very intensive; temperatures soon climb.

Yeah, but the back part were the fan is located is lifted so it gets more airflow i never put him in soft surfaces.

its not just where the fan is located, touch the bottom of the laptop whilst playing, it gets damn hot. that heat gets trapped if it cant escape through the gap between the bottom of the laptop and the surface its resting on. thats why there are vents in the bottom of laptops; cover any of those up and temps will rise.
