Question Laptop ram upgrade: Any brand will work?

So I've been searching the forums but none comes up. I'm planning to upgrade my laptop's ram. I already understand technical specs (DDR3, same brand pairing, etc.) but my only concern is if manufacturers actually brand lock their laptops to use their own model ram?

I have a lenovo laptop and I found some cheap samsung laptop rams online. Will it work with my laptop?

What is the model? To answer one of your questions, no the laptop company does not lock out other memory modules.
