Laptop starts and makes a noise for a few seconds then goes to sleep

Hello, When i press the start button on my compac laptop it makes a noise for a few seconds then goes into sleep mode and the screen is black, the OS doesn't boot. Any ideas how to fix it would be appreciated.

Is the fan blocked, or have you had heat problems? also yiu posted on the wrtong topic.
