A few days ago i upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and whenever I play Rust i get this problem, mind that it’s only Rust that gives me this problem.

Everytime I left-click i can see my desktop for half a second, it feels like it alt + tabs.
I tried various fixes, didn’t work, went through forums, steam posts, reddit, chat gpt, nothing worked.

If you upgraded to WIndows 11 using the internal upgrade path, you will need to;
1| Backup all mission critical data
2| create your bootable USB installer for Windows 11
3| reinstall the OS after wiping the older OS installation clean(format) in offline mode(disconnected from the www)
4| manually install all drivers with the latest version in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator

Hi there! Before reinstalling Windows, try disabling overlays (Steam, Discord), updating or clean-installing your GPU drivers, and turning off fullscreen optimizations in Rust’s compatibility settings. Also, check for background apps stealing focus and verify Rust’s files via Steam.

If you do your due diligence, you'll see that anyone who has migrated from an older OS to a newer one courtesy of the internal upgrade path, has seen anomalies similar to what you've seen, it's due to internal OS corruption and no matter what you do besides an OS reinstall is only going to be a stopgap, not a permanent solution.

If you do the math, you're going to undergo more down time troubleshooting than to perform a clean OS install as stated above, and getting things done with a fresh slate.

I reinstalled windows, did a clean install, installed all the drivers. Still the same with rust…
Oh and i might have installed windows while online, did everything with an internet cable plugged in, this can be the cause right?

I managed to fix it by reinstalling windows a 3rd time, was installing windows without internet, when windows asked for internet connection i plugged in my internet. Can’t really explain how i fixed it, but glad it’s fixed after 2 cleans reinstalls of windows 11.

Glad to hear you managed to resolve the issue. For the sake of relevance, when you're asked to connect to the internet when creating an account to move forward with the OS install, you do this;

that's what I meant with an offline mode install. Windows downloads and installs drivers it thinks is right for your platform which also brings about anomalies, I tend to go offline and install all drivers manually then hook up to the www to run an update.
