I am seriously thinking about getting a Lian Li aluminum case. I was looking for some feedback from people who have had experience with them. Are they worth the extra money and are they really a lot cooler than a regular steel case? I really like how they look and want to get one but it's still a lot of money. I'm just not positive this is the case to go with?

My signature really sucks.

I have NEVER talked to someone who had one and didn't aboslutely love it. And I've talked to lots of different people about them.

No, it doesn't help cooling all that much. It's supposed to act like 'a big heatsink', but unless you attach your CPU to the outside, it won't help. Maybe a couple of degrees cooler for system temps.
It's a very high quality case, though. That's the main reason to get it. And they look awesome, of course.

Thankx I thought they couldn't be that much cooler and they sure as hell do look awsome.

My signature really sucks.

They are arguably the best cases out there. The only one that comes close is the Coolermaster case. I just got mine and it is awesome. The build quality is superb. With it being aluminum, it has a little bit of a cheap feel to it, but is just because its a much lighter metal. I won't run a lot cooler no matter what people may tell you, so don't let that figure into your decision. If you plan on getting a USB model, remember that most M/B's don't have the necessary headers that would allow you to connect them all, Probably only 2 of them. If you like black cases, the PC-86 is a sharp looking case. Check at big008.com, as they have about the best selection.

There are two theories to arguing with women........neither of which work.

Yeah, I have a Lian-Li PC60 USB from big008.com
The outside of the case is super smooth and the front drive bay covers fit really nice. It includes this stuff:
16 motherboard screws
16 motherboard mounting brackets
1 spare thumb screw
28 drive screws
6 power supply screws
20 hard drive screws
a few little cable ties and a plastic wire clamp
All the other things in the case are connected with thumb screws.

There are two intake fans that blow over the hard drive area on the front with an adjustable external speed switch and removable filter. The 4 USB ports on the front have one long flip down aluminum cover. The USB ribbon cables for those ports come with pairs of two (1/2, 3/4). There is a single exhaust fan on the back of the case. On the inside of the case, some of the metal edges have plastic guards on them. I've put my 'ROM drives in and they fit pretty well. When I put my power supply in (which you have to buy separately), I had to remove the intake fan grill cover because the fit was so tight. Once I got it in, I put the grill cover back on. So that makes two intake fans and two exhaust fans (counting the power supply.)

I am still in the process of buying parts so I haven't actually turned it on yet. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I've set up my Lian-Li PC-60 with an Enermax Dual-Fan 465W PSU. I set the fans to medium and run a standard CPU fan. The case keeps this system very slightly cooler than my old InWin full tower did with the same number of fans (although higher speed) and a standard single fan PSU.

The aluminum material will not by itself keep the system noticably cooler, it's more the design of the case to allow for proper airflow. By proper I don't mean only volume. The path of the air being sucked through the case is much more important than volume. You could install all the fans you want in a case blowing directly onto the CPU and still have heat problems if that hot air isn't vented properly.

Lian-Li has done a superbe job with mapping the airflow which is one of many things which makes them so desirable. Shop around and you may find they aren't too expensive for what you're getting. Plus, I stopped getting bloody knuckles in the machine I moved into the Lian-Li. So I've already saved money in Band-Aids!
