I have the amazing Logitech Z5500 sound system. It's been great but probably within the past year or so the LED began to fade. I hooked up a fan on the back of the control pod to keep it cool and that seemed to correct the issue. But not long after that it seems like there's an issue with the control pod talking to the system. At times it will say "detecting.." but whether it stays in that state or actually seems to find what it's looking for the result is the same: no sound through the speakers. If I plug in headphones I'll always get sound through them. Sometimes if I get lucky rebooting the system or clicking through the inputs I'll get sound and things will magically seem to go back to normal. The problem is this is inconsistent. I do switch the source of my sound card to my projector often but I don't think this is the issue as I always make sure to switch things back in the NVIDIA control panel.

Any ideas on what I can do to troubleshoot and figure out what's going on? Is the controller just going bad at this point and need to be replaced?

Solution
One quirky thing I found out that works for those who may have the same problem is this:

1. Turn speakers on
2. Turn volume all the way down
3. Turn off
4. Turn speakers on again and turn up volume (if still no sound, repeat steps until you do)

I know it's not an ideal fix but it seems to work consistently.

I also put a fan on the back of the controller which seems to help bring the display back up on the controller.
