lookin for ram upgrade,which is best upgrade for me?

Hi guys my specs are
Acer monitior 1440p (60hz)
Asus Maximus VII Ranger -
Devils Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
Nvidia GTX 1070
Samsung 840 Evo 500GB
Corsair ValueSelect DDR3 1600 C11 1x8GB

I just got a 1070 and its a beast.I checked out userbenchmark and found out my ram is poor.Looking for 16gb ram is it ddr3 or ddr4 i get not sure and the speed ?

For DDR3, 1866 or 2133 are good. You do begin to reach diminishing return on your money after that. But 2400 and 2600 are supported.

It is worth trying it, even if it doesn't work.
Getting unmatched kits of ram to work together is problematical at best , impossible at worst. If just any two(or four) sticks would work together, there would be no need for matched sets.
Are both sets of ram on the QVL for the motherboard?

 


The latency & timing and the frequency of the RAM are different. The old RAM is (1600 CL11 1 x 8GB). Plus the new RAM would be matched dual channel and the old RAM is single channel.
 

As I said before, go ahead and try it. Worse case scenario is your computer won't boot. then simply remove the old ram and you are back in business.
