Looking for a firewire card/mobo

Hi all,

I have a Sony digital camcorder and I would like to transfer the material to my PC for editing. Which reasonably priced firewire adapter card could you recommend, having in consideration both hardware and supplied software?

Also, are there any good motherboards for PII or Athlon that feature a firewire port and some editing software?

i built an athlon (1ghz, asus a7v, 256 megs ram) sys for my buddy for the same sort of thing, and while i didn't see any boards that already have a fire wire port built in, there are plenty of good pci fire wire cards out there.

Just make sure that the program that you will be using to edit the video with is good and that it supports the card you buy.

ie, adobe premier program.. go to their website and it will show you all the cards that are compatible with it.

I don't think there are some buil in firewire card on PCs, you have to install that card separately later. I know that Macs G3 and G4 has already have (I don't older ones) buil-in Firewire 🙂.
Weiv why don't you buy Miro DC capturing cards. In online auction you can get them for good price. 🙂 Just suggestion.

You could try an add-in PCI firewire cards, and ASUS has
a 1394-equipped mobo, the P3B-1394 <A HREF="http://www.asus.com/products/Motherboard/Pentiumpro/P3b-1394/index.html" target="_new">http://www.asus.com/products/Motherboard/Pentiumpro/P3b-1394/index.html</A>. Word of warning, it's a slot1/BX based chipset.
