Looking for replacement for verizon router

I have Verizon FIOS in my home with an ActiontecM1424WR router. the router is a few years old and as I am branching out into my 2-story home with CAT6a cable to network my home I feel like I need to replace the router as it is slow. It has a 10/100 switch instead of gigabit and when I watch content from my PC downstairs on my Boxee Box the video is occasionally a little jittery.

I have a W7 PC which has been a major headache to network with so I'm looking for something that will work out of the box as I'm not up for a 40 hour session of network troubleshooting.

I plan on running to a switch

Is there anything special about FIOS, will any router work?

While I pay for 50Mbps down/25 up I just tested with Speedtest and got 109Mbps down and 32 up. Its never less than 50Mbps down/25 up.

how about adding a N router with Giga ports as an AP.

or configure the FIOS router as a modem and connect a N router with Giga ports

Are you sure you do not have gig ports already. It should have been impossible to get over 100m if you only have 100m ports. There are models of this router that do have gig ports.

If your only concern is running between 2 devices in yours house then the easiest solution would be to plug a small gig switch between the router and your devices. Then the traffic would never go into the router.

BUT this will most likely make no difference. You boxee can only run at 100m...and on top of that no video stream comes even close to using that 100m.

Any issues you have are highly unlikely to be a network issue.

I see what you're saying, that download speed shouldnt have been possible if the router werent capable of over 100m. It may well be the Boxee. It stutters occasionally but mostly does fine. I was just looking at the weak link in my network and it seemed to me that the router was the weal link, at least when taking into account the specifications of the owners manual, I didnt realize that some of these came with gig ports.
How do I tell if it has gig ports?
I suppose the speedtest.com test speed of 109Mbps tells me it has gig ports?

I forget exactly but there is a ethernet setting screen in the router that will show the status of each port and the speed. I know it will show you the speed the device is running but I don't know if it will show you what the maximum speed is. I guess if you know your PC can do a GIG then that port should show a gig speed. The boxee will only show 100m even if the port can do 1000.

I wish there was a easy way on a PC to see what speed it negotiated.
