Thanks for your time, Vic!

I will look into those GPUs you suggest. I suppose regardless of using 1 or 2 rails I should be fine with either one?

Would you have some additional GPUs that would work in addition to what you recommended? I am looking at the range of GPUs I can afford =)

CK

You're welcome. 😀

Yes you should.

I don't know what you can afford or what your max budget is.

Hi Vic,

I should have been more specific. I guess I was looking for GPU's you recommend at every tier that you believe would work with my machine. I am afraid of buying one and cannot return! =/

I would say I can spend ~400.00 USD.

Hi Vic,

I think I am going to purchase a GTX 970 today. Any specific manufacturer you recommend? Might just get one off Newegg...

After reading online the only variance is that the card runs on a PCIe 3.0 x 16 however I read that PCIe 2.0 x 16 would work just fine (which my MoBo has).

Best,
CK

Well EVGA,Gigabyte,Msi,XFX,Asus,Zotac are all good.

Looking at some options, keeping newegg in mind, could you look at these,
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/compare/evga-video-card-04gp43973kr%2Cpowercolor-video-card-axr93908gbd5ppdhe%2Czotac-video-card-zt9010610p/
from the two gtx 970's is only the Zotac available at the moment, but i think it's a good option,i like the triple fan cooler. From the EVGA are similar options available, but not for the same price and performance differs (very) slightly due to different clock speeds.
The r9 390 seems to be the best choice price/performance wise though, that's why i included it,it doesn't come with the free game (limited offer) though. It uses a lot more power so maybe something to keep in mind as well. You'll need to have 8 pin pcie connectors for this one.
Maybe look with the pcpartpicker yourself as well.I haven't checked Newegg, the site, itself, maybe there are more offers to find.

Make sure that your case can handle the longer gpu's.

Using pcie 2.0 will be fine with these gpu's,no worries there.

Not yet, should be here tomorrow hopefully, or maybe Saturday if it's coming USPS.

Ordered it on Tuesday with 3 day shipping from Newegg. I thought their facility was in NJ where I live but my part is coming from CA...lol

Hi Vic,

Should get the card today.

Thinking ahead, I believe my current GPU setup (Xfired Radeon AMD 6950 HDs) uses (2) 6 pin connectors. I believe the GTX 970 requires (1) 6 pin and (1) 8 pin. However, I believe the card might come with a 6 to 8 pin adapter...

Do you see any issues?

C.

Hi,

some gtx 970 use an 8pin+6pin,but most use 2x6pin so you should be good, depends on which one you exactly bought. Still don't see a big problem.

MSI GeForce GTX 970 DirectX 12 GTX 970 GAMING 4G 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support G-SYNC Support Video Card

That one needs the 8pin connector, but comes as well with the 6pin->8pin adapter so you should be fine.
I don't think at stock the gpu uses that much more than a reference gtx970,but they put the 8pin connector on it for overclocking reasons.

Got it installed, pulling out the old cards was the hardest part! The 6 to 8 pin adapter worked just fine...my PSU already had a 8 pin adaptive piece but it didn't fit in the card so I just used the one the card came with instead...

Anyway, couple quick questions. While monitoring the GPU temps, performance, etc. I noticed a section called "pagefile usage" maxed out, why is that?

Overall, this GPU is crazy, been playing Battlefront 3 on Ultra settings and not even breaking 70 Celsius.

CK

If it works it works ... The other 8pin wasn't an extra connector to power another cpu? Is called EPS connector.

Maybe the pagefile is set at a to low maximum? You can increase it.How is the ram usage? Maybe if the ram is maxed out the Pagefile is getting used, not a good thing since the pageile is on the hdd which is so much slower than ram.
If the low pagefile size {or even none) is because of the ssd could you set it so it uses the hdd for it.

Good to hear! Have fun! 😀

Thanks! Ram isn't maxed out but im running around 6GB/8GB on Max settings... Ram upgrade to 16 GB might be helpful?

CK

I currently have the pagefile box unchecked and the max I can set it to is about ~8000 if I check the box. Does this sound about right?

Just have the "let windows manage it automatically" + "size is managed by the system" box checked, windows will set it to the size of your ram. This should be enough, but is not the max.You could double it if you feel the need for that.

If I let the system manage the file size, I cannot go beyond the amount of ram I have. Although it says the recommended amount is about 12k but I have to set this manually to achieve that? That being said if I set it manually I'm not sure of what to set the minimum or maximums to. Also I read the pagingfile size is somewhat of a false reading?

CK

The pagefile thingy came because of this,

Still have that? when letting the system manage it.

For increasing it do you need to set things manually. If you want that just use the minimum set right now, which with me is 16mb.

What do you mean with "false reading"?

Yes, so I can manually set the minimum to 16 mb and the maximum to say 12-16k mb?

I will have to look but it seems to be an "issue", if you will, reporting maximum pagefile usage.

Would increasing my ram from 8gb to 16gb be helpful? If so can you recommend any Ram that is compatible with my CPU and Mobo?
