[citation][nom]smile9999[/nom]I dont think this includes steam sales, they never release them but great opening anyways although I was expecting something of a bigger scale[/citation]

its not for sale on steam

Hmmm, didn't it take $100 million to make it? So in the first two days they recouped all but $10 million in production costs, well in terms of gross as I haven't yet figured in sales and distribution costs.

So when will this be profitable? 3 million mark? 3.5?

Hopefully SC2's solid sales will inspire a bit of a resurgence in RTS gaming... which, in turn, could help strengthen the PC as a gaming platform in general.

[citation][nom]anamaniac[/nom]SC2, WC3.[/citation]
Yes I too, love Star Control 2 and Wing Commander 3 😛
But next on the list is Diablo III.

to much, for bad translation Latin America version no language pack (only Portuguese and Spanish), is too sad 🙁, please language pack for Latin America version.

[citation][nom]Sp0cK[/nom]It annoys me when people give ridiculous reasons to steal something. I didn't like how Sony charged soo much for their PS3 and how it didn't have Netflix like my 360 did 2+ years ago. That didn't make me want to go out and steal it vs paying for it. It doesn't have LAN play so what. Yes that would have been a great feature, but the service provided still allows users to compete for free against other people.Simply put, you are a thief. If you can't afford to buy a game, then obviously you can't afford to play the pirated version either. Obtain an education, then a legit job you enjoy, earn legit money and earn the right to play..... Might notices games are more fun when you "worked" to get it....I'm just tired of hearing poor excuses from people for stealing. "my 2 cents."[/citation]

You don't get my point do you? Well don't bother answering that, as it is obvious you do not.
My point isn't that I'm entitled to steal it because it doesn't have lan. My point is, that they decided against improving the game's quality because making it too good would hurt legit sales.

This doesn't mean it's a bad game, or that I am allowed to pirate it. What it means is, that they deliberately lower the quality of their games in order to achieve an even higher profit margin.

Compare this to honda lowering their warranty on cars to 1 year, and deliberately use too low grade materials, to make sure it breaks after about 18 months. That is what they're doing. Except I don't think battle.net will last 18 months without breakdown. In fact it's been down serveral times over the last couple weeks, for up to half a day at a time.

Anyway, I'm not trying to make up an excuse to pirate the game, or any other game. I am merely stating my reason for doing so. I never said I wasn't a pirate, or thief in your words. That'd be an incorrect statement, just like if you were claiming you'd never lie.

[citation][nom]RavnosCC[/nom]Why not? They both cost $60, at least MW2 is a complete game, not 1/3 of a game.... (I don't plan on buying either)[/citation]

Modern Warfare 2 was what, 5 hours long? Starcraft 2 may have 1/3 of the race's campaigns but it's easily longer and bigger than the first Starcraft. Anyone that thinks this is a third of a game is absolutely clueless.

ps. I don't mean to imply that Honda does lower its quality on purpose. That's just a metaphor. I'm driving Honda, and I love my Accord.
Also I haven't actually pirated starcraft 2, yet.

With the price frenzy on steam at the beginning of summer, I'll be occupied there for some months.

Having LAN play has nothing to do with "quality". That's one of the dumbest statements I've ever read.

And those of you who want to play on a LAN need to understand how Custom matches work...because you're all mistaken on the latency. But that's not surprising considering you completely misunderstand Blizzard's motives and try to talk about **** like profit margins as if you're a business analyst. Fact is, you're being a little baby about not getting a feature you wanted. Plain and simple.

How has battle.net been down several times over the past couple of weeks when the game came out EXACTLY 1 week ago?

Please do read more than just the first sentence!
I can't be bothered to repeat myself yet another time, so go back and read my previous posts again.

As for battle.net .... well as you may know, or appearently not, battle.net isn't developed exclusively for starcraft. It replaced the old battle.net (now called classic.battle.net and used for the first starcraft and both diablo games along with starcraft 2 bne among other things). It's even been expanded to include world of warcraft to some extend, and offers chat features across multiplie games. Sort of like steam, just not as reliable or well implemented (probably getting there in a year or two).
It's been in active use in world of warcraft as a chatting service for just under a month now, and has been working as reliably as an old citroën.

I had pre-ordered this game ages ago, and then they started giving out all the beta keys to those who made pre-orders. I was so excited, only to log in and find nothing but a huge disappointment. It is the same exact game I already have, albeit better graphics and some new units. Needless to say I have no need for two of the same game, especially when it's set at a ridiculous $60 and has no LAN.

$100 million in development costs.

1.5 million copies, with let's say $25 profit from each copy. (The online costs of hosting the download sites and bandwidth as well as the storage costs probably equal the cost to print up the box and disk, and get them to the stores.) We're talking 37.5 million profit. They need to sell a whole lot more copies to break even.

I'd like to know how many copies of the digital version were sold. I didn't feel like lining up to buy this and all of the stores I stopped by the next day were sold out, so I bought it online instead.

i dont see what the big deal is about no lan in sc2...
if you know anything about software development you would know
allot of developers are using this hybrid method of development.
install a base application, while other features sit in the "cloud".
In order to access 100% of the features you need internet access.
no big deal...Battlenet is a SC2 feature (well its even more than that)...
MMORPG players have no problem finding internet when they play their games
so i don't see how that is any different...

in my case if I don't have internet...than there is a large chance I don't have electricity...in which case I not playing an SC period!

They were suppose to take the title from MW2. Damnit, now we still have to listen to the MW2-fanboys. But, SC2 is only for PC, eat that console snobs.

"ohhhh blah blah blah no LAN. ohhhh blah blah blah Terran campaign only. ohhhh blah blah blah Real ID"

FFS... if it's that bad then don't buy it. No LAN? You have sites like GArena and that LAN site thing in china to thank for that. Terran campaign only? So what? The campaign was excellent and the story telling is great and it's hell of a lot of fun over all. I paid my hard earned money and I got something better than I expected. And I'd rather have a high quality part 1 than an above mediocre "whole game". IMO, then the whiners should just shut the hell up. If they think it's not worth their money, fine. Don't buy it. Nobody is forcing you to and nobody gives a rat's a s $ just PLEASE shut the hell up already. Oh wait, what? oh so you guys are going to pirate it? Hypocrisy. Seriously, if you hate SC2 that much then just don't bother. Period. Pirating it would simply mean you WANT to play it but it's either you're broke/poor or just simply a cheap sob who uses the no LAN whining as an excuse.

I'm not saying this game is perfect, I'm unhappy about being locked out of the North American servers being that I'm from South East Asia but I believe we'll get access within 60 days anyway.

Whiners should just shut up and let us enjoy the game we bought with our hard earned money.

no lan boo hoo, LAN parties haven't been fun in years. the only reason i went to them was to trade warez with other kids. now that i can find anything on torrents i have no need for them. also all the Counter strike playing made me sick. CS is/was overrated QIII and UT are waaay better games IMO, in QIII i would pwne the CS players only to have them cheat in their game.. i remember shooting guys in the head then being warp stabbed or sniped by a guy through a wall, crap game CS is. i just never got into any of the half life games, they just seemed unappealing, still do.

fist fights. that's what I really miss about LAN. 😛

[citation][nom]fyasko[/nom]the expansions are going to be sick! can't wait.[/citation]

ditto. I read somewhere that the Heart of the Swarm's campaign would play a lot different from Wings of Liberty... something about it being more RPGish I suppose

I've noticed alot of people getting upset about splitting it up into 3 games. Was I only the only person excited to here it was being split into 3 games? It worked out for lord of the Rings and Star Wars okay right? Why not a great video game like starcraft 2?

Overall I'm happy with SC2. I have a few missions left to play in the campaign, but so far its excellent.

The only problems I have are 1) the gameplay hasn't really evolved, I was hoping to see at least one new element added. And 2) LAN support. I actually would have used LAN quite a bit to play with my friends. Now we'll have to all play through Battle.net. I haven't tried it out yet, but I'm not sure that one 1.5mb down/0.5mb up connection will be able to handle 4-6 people playing. Not to mention that all other people in the house will not be allowed to use the internet for fear of chunking out our game.

I also want to know the marketing costs for this.
Even here in Western Canada, there was a huge SC2 banner by my local Wal-Mart.
Then again, maybe they just realized that we have tons of Asians in my neighbourhood who love StarCraft. 😀
