Hello guys,

Well i got a major problem!!

My specs:

Phenom II X4 965
4 GB DDR3
SAPPHIRE HD 7870 GHz Edition OC 2GB GDDR5
700 Watt power supply cooler master 88%

Problem:

When i start some games, i have low fps, no matter if i set everything to HIGH or LOW settings.
I don't know what the problem is.
Crysis 2 runs great and Mirror's Edge runs great.
Games like: Smite and other games i get like 20 Fps.

How to fix this?

Greetings

Solution
Sooooo.. That is why the FPS are that low?

I cannot guarantee thats why you FPS is low but its very likely as the board just cannot supply the power the CPU needs under full load. I am no expert on how this works and would have thought it would cause crashes rather than poor performance. It may even be that the CPU is not allowing the GPU enough power I don't think so but I just don't know.

And when i underclock it it will all run better?

Maybe, I think likely and it will not take long to try it and see

i need to buy a new motherboard?

Thats the ideal solution but you may find it runs OK @ 3GHz and its up to you if you want to spend money for 400MHz. But considering how good your GPU is you would be best getting a new board and...
Run something like GPU-Z and see if you are pushing the gpu hard or not. If it is at 80+ percent load when gaming then chances are you are running out of gpu power(demanding game). If the gpu load is low, your cpu is holding it back and needs some overclocking. You can use the task manager to see how hard a game is pushing the cpu(50% can mean a game uses only 2 cores while 75% may indicate the game uses 3. It does not have to be 100% to be a cpu limited game because a game using only one core to the max will ONLY show 25%).

Do NOT overclock with the stock cooler, it is not that good.

It is also important to know that most MMO games are cpu bound(as an example Guild wars 2 can actually hit cpu limits on even newer cpu like the 2600K @ 4.4 GHz[and can even push newer video cards if you push the settings far enough, but in large events cpu usage drops because the cpu run out of steam] and just kills performance on an i5 750 @ stock. Now this only happens in highly populated areas, but large group events simply take a toll on most systems.). I have not played Smite, but it may be like that too.

In any case, overclocking should at lest reduce it(take your time if you go the overclocking route).

Ok i will try it when i get home and will post the results here.
But what i don't understand is, before these new parts, i had a: Dual core 2.3 GHZ and a GTX 275, and games did run great.
Now i have a quad core and a way better graphic card, and things don't run like they use to do.

Well, how much can i over clock my CPU so i can stay with the stock cooler and don't need to buy a better one?
And what program can i use for it?
I know that in my bios there is a overlock module, but when i do a 5% overlock, the system shuts down, good back on but the screen doesn't go on anymore, so i need to try to restart the system and get back in de bios and put everything back to default.

How much you can overclock will depend on your chip/board. While one chip may do 3.6-3.8 on stock voltage another may require more. More voltage means more heat. Heat is what will be your limit with overclocking on the stock cooler. AMD wants to see under 62c

I have always done it in the bios for sure, but many MB makers do include a program to overclock. Just watch it as some of t hose programs tend to push the voltage hard.

Also, you should just need to push the multiplier and not bus speeds with your cpu.

vsync is off in games, still i have 20 fps or less in game.
I reinstalled winows, and installed the asrock tool to overclock.
But i did not yet activated it.
But what is so strange now, my cpu fan is making noise so more rpm.

Do some more research before you overclock as no offence but you don't sound like you have a clue what you are doing. Read some guides and ask any questions in the overclocking part of the forum. And avoid using automatic overclocking tools whatever.

Ok, here is the result.
I think it was that occ tool, i removed it bcause i could not change anything in it without that the pc hang up itselfs.

And now internet is slow, games run like *** except for crysis 2 it runs like a sharm.
But when i trg panzar or Smite, it's like 20 fps.

What should i do to fix this? it runs me crazy.

What is the video card load like when gaming? If it is low, the cpu is holding you back.

Not much you can do aside of overclocking and you HAVE to ensure you are doing it right(stable).

If you look at THIS image, you will see a video card at nearly max load(98%) so in this case, the GPU was not able to keep up with the cpu.

Just noticed on the HWMonitor pic your board is a N68C-S UCC which only supports up to 95W CPUs and the 965 is 125W. Try underclocking it to 2.6GHz (that should get it down below 95W) if it seems to run better increase it until you find the max it runs OK at.

Very good catch.

NO OVERCLOCKING for you.....

and another question: HOW to under clock my system?

Enter the bios (press delete or F2 in the post screen) and press the right cursor to enter the OC Tweaker menu. Go down to Multiplier/Voltage change and set to manual below that go to CPU Frequency Multiplier and change it to 13 for 2.6GHz. Go to the end menu and select save changes and exit. If this has a positive increase in performance try uping the multiplier to 14 for 2.8GHz and try again if it works fine try 15 for 3 GHz and try again. If it has a negative increase in performance then you could try 3GHz but most likely this isn't the problem anyway. If it makes no difference at all then it could be either the CPU is lowering itsself to 2.6GHz (I think this unlikely) due to its power issues or the problem is the GPU is overheating or something else and not related to the CPU at all.

If after trying this you still get no conclusive results post back and I will give you some other things to try.

Simon12, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
The best answer to my questions.
Thanks to you i will stay at this forum for the upcoming time to get support 😀

Thanks again simon12!!

When i get home i will try it right away.

Thnxxx, games run so smoooooth nog, unbelieveable!
But, now i did used that OC tool from ASrock a few days ago, my cpu fan makes a lot of noice.
How to put it back to normal so my computer automaticly adjusts it's speed of the fan?
