Hello :)

Right now I have my M.2 SSD from ADATA in my M2_2 (the lowest one on my mobo) but I want to move it to M2_1 slot (the top one) because I need a USB type c PCIE controller in my PCI_E6 slot, therefore I cant have a SSD in the M2_2 slot.

My Mobo manual (MSI x470 gaming plus max) says that the M2_1 slot only supports PCIe mode. Does this mean I cant install my M.2 SSD there?
Thanks in advance :)

Solution
Thanks for the reply:
Drive is:

ADATA XPG Gammix S11 Pro, 1 TB SSD
M.2 2280 NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x4
The M2_2 port is PCIe 2.0 x4.
It will work, but seriously hamper the performance of that ADATA drive.

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/X470-GAMING-PLUS/Specification
"M2_2 slot (from AMD® X470 Chipset) supports PCIe 2.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s 2242/ 2260 /2280 storage devices"

The M2_1 supports PCIe 3.0 x4, giving full potential performance with that drive.

Thanks a lot, I am going to move the drive to the drive to the M2_1. Is it as simple as just putting it in the M2_1 and go or do I have to tweek some settings in the BIOS. The SSD in question is the only drive in my pc.

That is nvme/pcie drive. You can use in any M.2 slot on your board.

BTW - M2_1 slots supports PCIE 3.0 operation and is faster than M2_2 slot (PCIE 2.0 mode).
Thank you so very much! :)

I am now going to move my SSD from the M2_2 slot to the M2_1 slot. Is it as simple as just putting it in the other slot and go or do I have to change some things in the bios? The ADATA drive is the only drive in my build.
