PCChips M830LR, AMD 1.4G Athlon, 256M DDR, Mactor 15G UDMA-66(SMART mode 5) in a 300W Case. I think the AMIBios is dated July 2001.

When I try to start-up Serious Sam or Quake 3 Arena the screen looks like it goes into sleep mode or no signal from the video card. At first I had a GEForce2 then I tried a Riva TNT2 that I knew worked and samething happened.

I've tried to use the most current drivers, Detonator 4, 1.09 AGP mini port driver, v8.1 DirectX, correct Monitor driver and still nothing. I had this same problem with Unreal Tournament until I tried to use either software or OpenGL mode then UT started to work(currently OpenGL).

How can I get Serious Sam and Quake 3 Areana to work with this set-up?

Check your temps, check to make sure you're getting enough voltage, check and double check your drivers, and make sure your videocard is seated properly.

I think there is a program that will remove your video drivers so that you could start fresh. Search around for the name. Try to start fresh so that you don't have any driver conflicts. If anything just delete your videocard from your device manager and let it redetect your card.

For the first two suggestions just download motherboard monitor 5. I just solved my problem by noticing that my temps were two degrees celcius too high. A 80 mm fan solved my problem once I realized this although I doubt that's your problem. Sounds like software to me.
