Yea, just wondering about the maximum safe temp for the 9700K. I have a custom water loop, so I surely hope that cooling won't be an issue but, yea, still curious about the max safe temp. Oh and also, I'm going to be overclocking.

70'C - 75'C is kinda the ideal temps for the 14nm chips. 80'C is okay but not good for longevity.

if you keep the chip under 75'C, it'll probably last more than 10 years.

Here's the real-world nominal operating range for Core temperature:

Core temperatures above 85°C are not recommended.

Core temperatures below 80°C are ideal.

Intel's highest Tj Max Throttle temperature for certain variants is 105°C or 221°F. Although most processors, including your i7 9700K Throttle at 100°C or 212°F (boiling point of water), it’s not advisable to run your CPU near it's thermal limit, just as common sense tells you not to run a vehicle with the temperature gauge in the red zone.

If your hottest Core is near it's specified Tj Max Throttle temperature, then your CPU is already too hot. The consensus among well informed and highly experienced system builders, reviewers and overclockers, is that cooler is better for ultimate stability, performance and longevity. Experts all agree that it's prudent to observe a reasonable thermal margin below Tj Max. So regardless of environmental conditions, hardware configurations, software workloads or any other variables, Core temperatures above 85°C are not recommended.
