I'm a beginner, so bear with me as I try to try to explain the situation.
My computer had been experiencing sudden shutdowns for a while, so when I finally decided to look into fixing this problem, I found that coolers working properly could have been a problem. I installed a piece of software that said my CPU temperature was around 150°, so I decided I needed to clean my heatsink.
I look up instructions on how to remove my Intel heatsink and followed them perfectly, cleaned out the fan, then put it back, making sure to plug in the wire I had taken out. When I opened the PC again it said that the CPU temp was now around 70°, which I was really happy about. A few seconds later, my screen turns blue and I get an error which says something like
"Your PC ran into a problem
MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION"
At this point I've tried a lot of the fixes I found on the internet, none having worked. People have said reapplying thermal paste is not necessary, so what might have caused this problem?
