Megatouch History

Sorry if this has been asked before, but anyone have a history of the Merit
Megatouch games? When you look at ePay listings, it is very confusing the
various models. Ruby don't mean squat to me or their other funny-ass names.
At least now they seem to be putting a model year on them, but even that can
be odd. What the heck is a 2004.5?

Hopefully, their marketing department, responsible for naming these things
have suffered a horrible fate, such as daily emails from Ron Grossi.

🙂

If you go to the Meritind.com site and in their support page they have a
migration chart that shows most of what you might want to know.

I'd just add a little extra detail on the last couple of generations:

The XL line used a common motherboard, but was not exclusively limited
to CD-based. With a security key and a CD or HDD swap (and sometimes
more RAM), you can switch among the following:

XL 5000
XL 6000
XL Extreme
XL Gold
XL Platinum
XL Double Platinum (trivia and pictures update)
XL Titanium

Merit then introduced the MAXX line, with a new motherboard, and
changed the naming methodology to use the names of precious gems.
These are primarily HDD-based. If you have a MAXX motherboard, you can
switch among them with a new security key and drive. Some of the
releases:

Emerald
Emerald 2
Ruby
Diamond
Double Diamond
etc.

and then you get into FORCE and RADION...

The very first one was based on the sought after CRT250. It was a chip
based board and was also used in their Pit Boss machines. I had a couple of
these at one time but sold them about 2 years ago. I believe there was only
one Megatouch version that used this board.

It then migrated over to a CRT260 which was the 1-7 series. All chip based
and to say a current seller on eBay is mistaken, these did NOT include any
of the adult, nude games. It also did NOT have a freeplay option.

The XL was next and was CD based. These had the adult nude games.

Then it went to the hard drive models which are still being used.

What you are questioning, the "2004.5" is just a version. It was an upgrade
that came out mid-2004.

That's about it in a nutshell, coming from this nut. :)

Oh yeah... I see sellers on eBay at times list a CRT200 with Megatouch in
the description, and they are just idiots. There never was a Megatouch
based on the CRT200 board. Keyword spamming is also misleading and
confusing...
