Hello

I hope that someone out the can help!

I’ve always had this thing about seeing a monitor before I buy it. In this case it looks like it might have to be online unless you all can help. My selection here in Knoxville TN area for LCD monitors really sucks! We do have an Office Depot, Best Buy and a Comp USA but they all seem to carry the same brand names. Do you or someone you know have any advice on computer stores for the Atlanta GA, Nashville TN, or Chattanooga TN that have really great displays of monitors out on the floor?

Oh, I forgot to mention that the three brands that I’m interested in for a 19 inch LCD are NEC, Samsung, and View Sonic! By the way whatever happened to MAG?

Thank you all so much for your help!

Sincerely,

Sandman

there's a Fry's Electronics in Duluth, GA. i dont know what brands they carry, but they do have a lot on display...

Let me tell you a little story...

I happen to be from the Knoxville area myself and recently moved to Atlanta. I actually talked to a salesman in the Knoxville Compusa about a ViewSonic LCD they had not to long ago. Basically they had a slightly newer model on Newegg for about $100 less, and I asked if they would do a price match or anything. Basically the conversation ended with the sales guy telling me, "honestly, I would just buy that off of Newegg if I were you. There probably isn't anywhere in town that will have that good of a deal."

I used to work for Best Buy, and we were supposed to get items at cost for our employee discount. Oddly enough, I checked the "cost" price at Best Buy several times and could find a similar or better item (sometimes the exact same model number) on Newegg for anywhere from 10-50% less than "cost." I've even repeatedly seen them charge customers more than the MSRP by as much as a 30% margin.

Unless you need it immediately or it's some little cheap item that isn't worth paying the shipping on (in which case you can always wait and combine it with another order), it's just not worth it to fool with the big retail stores. Even with shipping, you'll be far better to get it off of Newegg. Even when I worked for Best Buy, I knew I would have an easier time dealing with Newegg if there was a problem. Pretty much their only concern is to help you part with as much money as possible.

If you want to go to Atlanta, check out Micro Center. It's not too bad for a retail store, and it's on I-75 on the Windy Hill exit north of most of Atlanta, so it's not to hard to get to.
