Metro is actually a half decent name for the UI. I'd be surprised if MS comes up with something good. They always come up with stupid names like "Windows Phone 7" and "My Documents". The general public seems to hate windows, why name a new product after that?

You know what? Linux is more work to configure then windows, no question. I would rather, personally, devote the effort into linux that is open source and developed by its users then have too fix an os I purchased from a company that seems indifferent to a notable percentage of its client base. I dont really have to manage the Pentagons network/IT problems, so I am willing to give linux a shot. And umm, I'm 43, own my house, and have worked at a locally owned graphic/printing company for the last 18 years. Started playing with computers with a TRS80 model1 with a cagivessette drive and a Timex/Sinclare that had 4k of ram. I've been building them for friends, family, and customers for a long time. They have almost always been microsoft builds. If this is going to be the new direction microsoft takes for its os, then yes I will switch to linux. Will this impact microsoft? Of course not. But I wont be one of the complacent consumers that just takes whatever they choose to give us as an excuse for a desktop os that clearly belongs on a tablet. Enjoy.

but just like OSX it will not have the vast library of games that the windows version has.

you talk about windows being dead? LMAO Linux as a desktop OS has been dead since the 90's

here is a prime example of an old fart that will not change whether it is a change for the best or worst

2500 games is a vast library if they at least include most of the newst games. Heck, many (perhaps most or even all) of the newest PC games can already be run on Linux quite well if you know what you're doing. Beyond that, having great gaming capacity is not a prerequisite for being a desktop OS. Other than in gaming, as a desktop OS, Linux is excellent. Some distros are worse than others, but many distros are excellent for general-purpose desktops. The average person only does Office work, web browsing, and watches video on their PC. Linux can do all of that very well and in many cases, better than Windows. It can do many other things too. Linux is most certainly not a dead project, not even on the desktop form factor.
