Memory Frequency

Hey,

I recently bought an E8500 and a P5E Deluxe with some OCZ DDR2-1066. By default the board doesn't recognize anything above DDR2-800 but allegedly flashing the bios to the rampage formula one was supposed to do the trick.

Well I'm currenty running the rampage formula bios but my memory still appears as PC6400. Now I'm wondering, if I overclock the memory beyond 800mhz will this have a negative impact or can I safely push it all the way up to 1066?

I guess that's a pretty definitive answer...

You can safely push it to 1066 - will be no problems - you may need to put the voltage up to 2.1v - check what your sticks are rated at.

The real world performance gains are negligible. You would be better off setting the base clock to 400 and running the CPU @3.8G with the RAM at 1:1 800.

Make sure you have a good heatsink for the CPU and read the Core 2 Quad and Duo Temperature Guide and the HOWTO: Overclock C2Q (Quads) and C2D (Duals) - Guide v1.6.1 stickies first.
