Hey Guys,

I recently purchased the below components for a new gaming machine:

Ryzen 5 3600x
MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus
MSI GeForce GTX 1660
8ghz Kingston Hyper X Fury DDR4 3200ghz

As far as I can see this motherboard supports up to 3200ghz memory speed without overclocking (according to ebuyer.com product technical description). To my surprise CPU-Z reported the memory speed at only 1.499ghz.i tried the 3.2ghz and 3ghz pre loaded memory overclocking feature in the bios but 3.2ghz failed (the screen was just black after the reboot) and 3ghz booted fine but CPU-Z reported slower speed than the original 1.499ghz. I also tried manually overclocking the memory, increasing several voltages and memory timings but every single time CPU-Z reported lower than 1499ghz. I have screenshots and examples but don't wanna make this too long.

The only thing I can think of is that the power supply I'm using is still my very old, Antec High Current Gamer 750W Quad Rail Power Supply that might and is bottle necking this somehow. The motherboard above has one 4pin and one 8pin power connectors for the CPU but my power supply only has two 4pin (to make one 8pin). People online said the other 4pin that is only required for extreme overclocking so I'm thinking perhaps my power supply isn't supplying enough power for this!? Thanks in advance.

If your memeory is HX432C16FB3A/8 its supported by your motherboard @ 3200. https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-3200MHz-Desktop-HX432C16FB3AK2-32/dp/B07WJJFV9Z?th=1

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/MPG-X570-GAMING-PLUS#support-mem-19 select compatibility and then Memory by RX-3x00

Try setting the IF to 1600 and then do the memory settings. DDR4-3200 CL16-18-18 @1.35V The XMP Profile #1 is of interest.

FACTORY TIMING PARAMETERS
• Default (JEDEC): DDR4-2400 CL17-17-17 @1.2V
• XMP Profile #1: DDR4-3200 CL16-18-18 @1.35V
• XMP Profile #2: DDR4-3000 CL15-17-17 @1.35V

Hi zx128k,

Thanks for your quick reply! A few things:

My memory is HX432C16FB3/8 but it's pretty much the same as what you posted.

I just did the compatibility you told me about and surely the Ryzen 5 3600x CPU (currently at 3.8ghz) is good enough? I also in one of my manual overclocking attempts increased the FCLK to 1400 but I still only achieved a very slow memory speed.

Apologies but what is the IF? I haven't done this for quite some time so am very rusty. I'll try this later today or tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your help on this do far.

Hi again,

Everything is fine and it always was. CPU-Z measures the memory frequency incorrectly and you have to double the value (1.499ghz is mine) to get the accurate frequency and I'm happy with 3ghz.

Apparently they measure the frequency like data rate (not like frequency) and as DDR is double data rate you have to double that value that is represented on CPU-Z to get the accurate number.

Many thanks for your help on this but everything is and always was fine haha just CPU-Z presenting the value in a odd way.

You are doing everything right. You should confirm stock operation.

Just want to let you know that running a Ryzen 3600X with only 1 stick of RAM in Single Channel is performance suicide. You are losing almost 30% of your fps in some titles because of that. What you need is a 2x8GB kit or 2x4GB kit but I wouldn't recommend 8GB since this is just not enough these days.

By using 2 sticks you will be running in Dual Channel.
