[citation][nom]etichi[/nom]Actually, Apple is more profitable. For the amount of stuff they sell vs. their capital reserves Apple wins. They have less than 10% of the market and still have 40 billion in cash. haha. MS is just a big fat company that produces shit! Took them how long to produce 7?[/citation]

I wonder what would Steve do with that 40Billion in Cash, i hope he donate at least some of it into some kind of charity like Bill own Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Umm, doesn't that just equate out to Apple is price gouging the shit out of every individual thing they sell compared to Microsoft? If Microsoft is a big fat company that produces shit, why does Apple only have that less than 10% of market? Figure MS has 80%ish of the market share (I have no idea what the current market share of Linux is, but 10% I think is a fair guess for desktops), and yet Apple's stock price is 10x that of MS's... It seems Microsoft has a more fair pricing system than Apple does. Also yes I realize Apple generates money from other sources, but so does Microsoft, and I would think Bing makes a pretty good chunk of change for MS.

Bring back the family pack and they'd sell even more. There is no way I'm paying USD$120.00 for each license to upgrade from Vistax64. Using economy of scale the licenses should be 50.00 ea.

[citation][nom]XPuntisomethingbettercomesand7ainti[/nom]1.5 million sold and 88.5 million pre installed is more like it. Who`s dum enough to buy Win 7 when XP is still faster and Win 8 just around the corner??[/citation]

you are a moron.

[citation][nom]Parsian[/nom]does anybody know how many copies of XPs sold up to this date?[/citation]

Probably 100 or so shy of this 90,000,000 number..... hence the release of the info.

There should be no comparison between the to companies since Microsoft doesn't have the overhead of manufacturing the amount of hardware that apple does. I might be wrong in my assessment but Microsoft only produces keyboards, mice, webcams, headsets, notebook accessories, games, operating system and the Xbox 360(39 million sold and counting)

Apple on the other hand has notebooks: MacBook, MacBook pro, MacBook air. Desktops: iMac, Mac Pro, Mac mini. iPods: Shuffle, Nano, Classic and Touch. Two 3G iPhones, Apple TV and now the iPad.
Sooo.. How much of that 40 Billion is actually profit? How much goes into R&D, manufacture , advertising and huge inflated salaries.
Besides I don't see anyone singing the praises of Apple's lastest OS code name "Snow Leopeard".

All of it? LOL.

Microsoft is in the same profit limiting position that Coca-Cola is. It's estimated in a year or two (Perhaps a few months even if the iPad is successful) that Apple will surpass Microsoft in Market Capitalization. The sad thing? There is absolutely nothing Microsoft can do to stop it.

[citation][nom]randomizer[/nom]No offence, but being a big "fan" of a corporation is kind of... sad.90M is quite impressive. I wonder if this includes technet subscriptions (I assume so).[/citation]
also, I would like to know that's the percentage of the versions that where sold to oems, the strength of a system is measured by the number of clients which bought it from choice, not because they need a laptop and all laptops in there towns/country are sold with windows preinstalled on them and without the ability to select what os should go on it.

Hey when you over price all your products, over hype them and as well rely on your mortal enemy to save you when you are down (MS has bailed Apple out a few times now) sure you will be profitable.

And just because you are blinded by that hype does not mean Windows 7 is anything less than a great OS.

[citation][nom]mlopinto2k1[/nom]90,000,000 x 200 (average) = 18 Billion. Wow.[/citation]

Not quite, companies like Dell get their copies for cheap, then there's the OEM versions and Discounted versions if you have a .edu email address (something like $30 for a copy of Win7). The average is probably much closer to $75 per copy, maybe even less.

[citation][nom]Parsian[/nom]does anybody know how many copies of XPs sold up to this date?[/citation]

Only info I could find quickly was an article from 2004 saying it sold 210 million copies. I'm sure it sold much more during the next few years until Vista came out.

Have to agree, 7 is a good OS. it's one of the best OS Microsoft ever made so far.
But to be fair, i also am using Vista SP1 in my laptop, and i haven't found any real issue.

All you Guys are missing the Fact,

90,000,000 Licenses doesn't equate to 90,000,000 x $$$ = Billions of dollars. A huge portion of that is allocated to Corporations that purchase Per User or Per Device License at a MUCH LOWER PRICE then the Average PC Consumer. Company X has 10,000 PC's they purchase 12,000 license's to cover future growth that's 2000 UN-USED Licenses! for many years!

Steve Bald-Mer can kiss my ass for misleading the Public.

Yes and no. Their stuff is expensive, but it is boutique goods, so it will carry a price premium. You don't need a fancy white box to work, but some people prefer it. Good for them, they are getting what they chose to buy (ie. not gouging). I'm too cheap for boutique goods, and I'm almost too cheap for mainstream goods. :kaola:

[citation][nom]EnFission[/nom](I have no idea what the current market share of Linux is, but 10% I think is a fair guess for desktops)[/citation]
More like 1%. On the other hand, Windows and Linux are pretty much reversed in market share in the server/supercomputer market, and Linux also owns a large portion of the handheld market (performance scales far better than most other OSs).

Other users have made good points. This would likely include OEM sales, meaning "forced" installations, as well as volume licences.

It is only a matter of time Iphone and the Ipad will overtake the number of windows sold. This is Windows last breath - Like Google Microsoft has Copied Apple OSX ex sept the genuine OSX remains free of viruses

Looks like a awful lot of MS employees are spamming the forum again instead of figuring out how to get Win 7 Faster than XP

as I might own a w7 in the future (for the wife) I'll never own a apple brand gadget due to the fact that apple seems to think that we (the users) are stupid by selling us the same technology in another packages at a higher price.
yeah, I know I pay of the system, well I use linux, it suits my needs, I don't need more. I don't want more.
