Hello, Just recently I got the svchost.exe. error. This causes Generic Host Process for Win32 Services to crash and the end result losing alot of windows services (IE sound, file sharing, and some GUI). There have been other problems for example google searches all get rerouted to other sites and the microsoft update site is being blocked. Many people say it is simply an error, but I believe it to be a virus. I have used malwarbytes, avira, and antivir only to not find any type of virus. Im close to formatting but thought I would try 1 last ditch effort here.

any knowledge on how to solve this riddle would be awesome. thanks!

apparently the search for these forums is not helping me see all the other posts about this issue forgive me ill continue to look at past posts for the answer thank you

as an update i want to add that while i was scanning with malwarebytes and combofix in safe mode the virus is still making itself present... svchost still uses over 200megs of ram and 100% of the CPU... not sure if any of the methods givin on the malware removal guide will help...

after running all virus scans and registry repairs in safe mode... the svchost.exe is still performing at 50-100% cpu usage and google searches are still being rerouted... does any one out there have any ideas?

went even further and did a system restore and its still there...
so for now im just gonna just reinstall windows... hopefully that will get rid of it...

Let's see what's going on in there. Go Start then Run and type into the open box cmd /k tasklist /svc (including the spaces) then hit Enter. A black form will open - right click anywhere on it and go to Select All. Press Enter and that puts all the text into your clipboard. Post a reply back here and Control V will transfer the text into the message.
