If IE9 is actually standards compliant and works better, then I have no problem using it.

I seriously doubt IE9 will have proper HTML5 canvas support. Doing so would be a slap in the face to SilverLight. Although if Microsoft abandons SilverLight and creates a great development environment for HTML5 canvas that makes using Adobe Flash pointless; I'm all for that.

[citation][nom]mayne92[/nom]New innovations?...from M$?...M$ "innovations" are ideas from other innovators. As M$ is a huge company, you would think you'd see greater amount of innovations that no-body has seen before, a new idea, whatever. But it seems to always be an "innovation" that can be found from something or someone else...[/citation]

Microsoft is quite innovative you look behind the cover. A lot of things you see from Microsoft may not seem that innovative(IE, office, Windows). They do have a bunch of applications and even hardware. Also go look at Microsoft Research. Microsoft also spends a shit ton of money on Research, although that doesn't always mean that it reaches the consumers eye's.

It will be great if IE9 is actually standards-compliant. It's a PITA having to support IE7/8, and you're SOL if you still use IE6. It's sad, though, that M$ is only just starting to work on support for HTML5 and CSS3. Firefox, Chrome, and Safari have had partial support for those standards for a while now.

Are you serious, M$ fix code rather than patch around the problem making bigger more bloated installs? :eek:

Yikes, don't want the IE girl getting bloated, especially if someone installs the wrong plugin... make sure she stays on the patch!

Like IE8, however I wish it had the spell checking built right in like Firefox. If it did incorporate more speed which I think it is much faster that previous versions.

LMFAO! Boy can I relate to that!

IE8 is fine, I prefer everything else. Forget prior versions of IE8...

You might wanna check IE. Since last updates on my Win7 x64, the IE is more efficient and faster for me than even Firefox, takes less memmory and works with everything flawlesly. Just a heads up. I use both but now way more IE8.

[citation][nom]mayne92[/nom]IE still sucks...took M$ till version 8 to allow web developers to have less of a headache to program-through-hoops in order to get a webpage to display properly with their shitty browser! lol[/citation]

I keep reading about complains of issues getting a webpage to display properly...but I have yet to experience the issue. Seems to me, it's more a lack of ability on behalf of the web-developer than a flaw in IE.

The only reason why we have FF and other browsers is because IE sucked when it was 5/6. If it was super-awesome, why would others make a better browser? Ever bothered thinking about that before you mouthed off like an ignorant hater?

HTML5 is not a standard. It is a working standard. Right now HTML5 is still in early stages, and there wasn't a whole lot of point for Microsoft to develop HTML5 support for IE8.

Use a trojan when you insert to avoid creating a new file.

@eddieroolz:
Actually, I like IE6 more than IE8 minus the lack of standards compliance. The IE6 UI was more efficient and customizable. Unless they radically redesign IE9, Firefox will still be the king in the area of customization and expandability.

@mpintar:
True, HTML5 is not official yet. However everyone except M$ seemed to think it was a good idea to start implementing it. It's certainly something that a lot of developers want to see in browsers. The point is M$ needs to reform the way the develop and release IE.

I agree they should support it. Ultimately it would be nice to see them adopt a webkit rendering engine. Although there might be a good reason that they aren't (Security, legacy support I dunno). That would allow them to focus on adding more innovative features while keeping up to par with other WebKit browsers(Chrome, Safari).

In terms of where they are with IE8 and no HTML5 support they probably had higher priorities then HTML5. As a web developer it would be nice to see more HTML5 support but right now I don't see it being a major thing. The main thing that people like about HTML5 is the video tag. I think it would be cool if the video tag implementation for all browsers would support Flash/Silverlight in some way. Then developers can still use existing skills to develop for it. So say using ActionScript C#/VB.NET to implement certain things with the video tag along side what is already used.
