I haven't played any games on my Xbox 360 in a very long time. I use it as my media extender from my PC and to watch Netflix. That is it. I'm not even that interested in a new Xbox to tell you the truth. Shoot, I'm even thinking of replacing the Xbox 360 with a Raspberry Pi once they become more available and all the bugs have been worked out of them and such.

[citation][nom]p05esto[/nom]Sure the 360 is nice and works/looks fine.... but I'm ready for somethng shiny and new, something faster and even more WOW. I just hope they make the design of the case better than the current Xbox and the last one. I would like something industrial looking that looks good in my array of home theater center. The current one isn't even rectangular and it doesn't sit well on other devices or look good along with the receiver and everything else. Make it out of aluminum, make it nice and rectangular with cool expansion bays, customizable front panels, LED readout, USB front output for flash drives, etc etc etc. Make the thing look like a mini Yamaha receiver (with adjustable fans).... In other words, make all the tech guys love the thing, make it a mini computer/entertainment device. I'll pay $500-$600+ no problem.[/citation]

I hear ya, man. All they need is two styles, brushed aluminum, one shiny and one black. Flat rectangle, no stupid round hump like the PS3 so the controller keeps sliding off. A normal small LED or two, that can be dimmed or disabled altogether. I want the USB port to be one that swings out, so that I could plug in a fairly standard shape/size usb drive, then swing it in so it's flushed in behind a closing panel. A concealed door for SD cards as well. And give it keyboard/mouse functionality, FFS.

[citation][nom]hasten[/nom]Ahhhhhh the words from an ignorant kid who can't afford a decent machine. I care about graphics. And I'm a gamer. And most the things you want need processing power from somewhere. You can still make games with story, sound, music and push the limits on graphics buddy (Witcher 2?). Also I'm pretty sure that Sorry was fully optimized years ago.[/citation]
ah, the witcher 2 engine, thats a fun one to bring up, as i see it as another brute force type of engines, that game is all about the textures, thats where 90% of how good that game looks comes from, and yet they couldn't find a way to make the textures run at full rez or close to it on a card that has 1gb of ram or less.

i mean i can get that game running at about 40fps on mt current computer, phenom II 955, and a hd5770 1gb, but lets also point out another more resounding flaw in that game, the texture quality is somehow tied to AA, so instantly, if you want to play this game with the best graphics possible you are required to have 1.5-2gb of ram, because if i understand right, max textures is about 700mb of files, aa will boost that need by another 500ish mb of ram. this is a game where if they put just a little bit of thought into the graphics beyond how to make them as good as possible they could have made the game truely great...

lets also not forget that this game has massive ties to the cpu, and if they used dx 11 over dx 9, for nothing more than a newer format, the game would play so much better, instead they triend to add stupid ammouts of graphical crap to dx9, and while it looks great, forces the game to be a brute force instead of finesse

as for story, cant say much as i just played it to benchmark and set up graphically so far, haven't played it much because im trying to beet the first game first.

PC is for the win, PS4 and Shitbox 720 will NEVER EVER EVER beat my PC specs that i have today.

Intel i7 990 Extreme, overclocked to 5ghz with liquid cooling.

2 X Nvidia GTX 590 cards in SLi.

State of the art 12 gigs of corsair gaming RAM.

WD VelociRapto Hard drive 10000 RPM.

Creative Sound blaster XFI Fatality.

To all the console looser i say tell SONY and MS to beat that :)

in your FACE muhahahahaahahahha

I am a PC gamer and I own a 360, mainly just for a few titles. I barely touch it but do enjoy it when I play it. My problem isn't so much the graphics but rather the lack of innovation due to the aged console. We really should be seeing games have more realistic physics and game-play that takes advantage of these physics. We should see truly innovative advancements. Could you imagine the potential of Kinect if they kept it in R&D and waited until the new console?

I think one of the most frustrating things is that the PC is no longer the testing grounds. We get the same things as the consoles instead of being a step ahead to prepare them for not only the good but to avoid the mistakes made in that time. So now consoles have to walk blindly through this and obviously the companies are to scared to. I think it is damn foolish for publishers to be missing this opportunity, be innovative on the PC now and be the dominant force in the next consoles there is no doubt about this.

[citation][nom]doogansquest[/nom]Erm...They are referring to the spinning plates of the hard disc drive, not an optical drive. They are moving from an HDD to an SSD, or solid state. The optical drive will likely be a blue ray player.[/citation]
When headlines across the internet read as "Xbox 720 said to be shipping with no optical drive" - that means no optical drive planned, not referring to HDD nor SSD. DVD's and Blu-ray discs are considered easy to pirate, Microsoft is looking to take down two "evils" here. They wish to use some proprietary medium (or downloadable altogether) that makes pirating difficult without special hardware, and take a bite out of 2nd-hand/used game sales. Sorry you missed this bit of info.

[citation][nom]ismaeljrp[/nom]And that's whats good for business[/citation]

But many (including myself) don't give a damn about what's good for business. And if companies had consistently done everything to squeeze out their customers like they do now in the past already, I bet we wouldn't be nearly as far as we are now.
It is just plain stupid to use "it's good for business" as a defense for shitty policies. Unless you're part of the company, you're even arguing on behalf of their greed.

Great! Now just watch Apple release a game console in 2012 with an advanced Quad-core ARM processor and awesome 1080p graphics for only $300.00. Plus, it will have some never before seen ability, that Microsoft didn't think users wanted, or didn't want users to have. This will then force Microsoft to spend the next three years hastily developing a product to compete with it. And finally, Microsoft execs will get on stage to profess that this product will show off how great the Metro UI truly is....

One reason may be that the next Xbox hardware is now too "expensive", so they wait some time for getting them cheaper? Who knows, but we all know that it is bad busines to reveal the information that the next new Xbox or what ever, is coming out xx.yy.zzzz. It would reduce the selling of older console. So they deny everything as long as they can.

[citation][nom]drwho1[/nom]No disk drive is an automatic NO BUY for me.I personally use my PS3 as both a gaming console and Bluray movie player, if MS truly wanted to compete, they should at the very least keep a disk drive.... but NOT as an option, but as part of the console.[/citation]
I do the same, but I think that BD players have become low cost enough that they are becoming common in houses with HD screens, more so for those with 1080p than 720p, so the move to solid state is a good idea, as it removes the limitation of fitting all of the content onto a disc. Sure, you could use 2 BDs to accomplish the same thing, but perhaps the solid state is becoming cheaper as an alternative. there is a benefit to being able to use a 16GB stick or a 32 GB if you need it.

However, this is all rumors, and I think that discs will probably be the cheaper solution in the long run, although a solid state 'bay' will be cheaper to construct as far as console costs go

Yeah, we get it Microsoft. Seems like every week there is another statement how they are saying how no new Xbox at E3. I think we all read it the first time.

I know they are consoles but what ever happened to incremental development and a migration to multiple uses for these class of device. Both the xbox and ps3 have shortcomings in this area.

I for one would like to see USB3, 802.11n (i know the xbox has 802.11n), 6gb/s sata, etc. Many of these things wont impact gaming but will allow more uses for my console. For example the ps3 still occasionally stutters when recording dtv and still can't handle dual recordings (a standard in the pvr market). Such shortcomings are annoying. The xbox360 is yet to allow a dtv tuner and recordings.

It's time these consoles opened up a little and allowed incremental (and even user) upgrade similar to the PC itself.

But gaming, pff, i over it.

Wow, wow! Why all the hate? I understand from your standpoint that if consoles don't up the ante, neither will game developers making your monster rigs virtually useless for gaming (trust me, I know how you feel) but why bag on the Xbox? It does what it's supposed to do and it may not do it perfectly, but it still does it. I bet all of us can name a time when we were stuck with a rig that stood no chance of playing a game properly but we still did it anyway, and we didn't care (think parent's computer when we were younger) because the choppy graphics didn't take away from the experience, so why in the hell is it "OH SO GOD DAMN IMPORTANT UBER BENCH MARK AND EVERYTHING IS ABOUT GRAPHICS" is the first god damn thing you look for?

But besides the nostalgia who cares if Microsoft isn't announcing their console? I own a 360 and I have zero complaints. I have yet to max out my GPU but I'm sure I never will. Computer tech will always be above console tech.

I used to be like that. Then I got a proper gaming desktop and now that I DO know the way it's meant to be played, I don't see why I should settle for less.

Consoles have their place. I myself haven't touched a console in over 15 years since I started PC gaming, but I completely understand the appeal of a console.

Easy and cheap games for non-serious gamers. They bring video games to the people that don't have the mind or will to learn about PC gaming.

I do, however, like making fun of the "serious" console gamers. Kind of like an oxymoron. Hell, my laptop for LAN parties makes Xbox / PS3 look like leapfrog toddler toys lol. Say nothing about my desktop lol.

Console = casual, and casual is where the money is at, so whatever. No need to hate on crapbox players lol.

[citation][nom]soldier37[/nom]Sad, already outdated hardware and its not even close to being out yet lol. By the time it is my 2 x GTX 680s 4Gb versions in SLI will be matured and 2 x 256GB SSD drives will be humming along with Windows 8 64bit Ultimate on DX12 graphics at 2560 x 1600, and I'm not exaggerating.[/citation]

GTX 680s don't support DX12. lol

If Sony comes out with a PS4, I won't buy it for a few years. I'm still happy with the PS3. People that own XBox 360 are probably in the same boat.

I predict another 3 years before most are ready to upgrade.

good-ol microsoft, holding all the cards. Why would they even talk about a new console?
gaybox and gaybox live are pulling in revenue, no reason to talk about the next gen crapsole.
If sony shows their hand, then microsoft will probably start touting their next gen, but no reason either would do that, when your on tail end of the life cycle and everything now is basically pure profit.
I wish they would release a new console every 3 years, then pc gamers could enjoy games that actually utilize the full potential of our custom built systems, but that is just a dream.
the reality is, we are stuck in a 7-10 lockdown.

the one savior of pc gaming? MODS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thank god for mods. i have 5 character and 450+ hrs in skyrim all because of mods and CK.
I make my own homes, and now im starting on scripting.
The skyrim i play now is totally different than when i first installed months ago.
HD textures, custom weapons, armor, dungeons, quest and tons more.
skyrim for me now is about survival. My pc can die from exposure, lack of food, one arrow to the head and your dead, i have to travel with at least 4 mercs to make it from town to town, set up camp when the weather turns nasty and that is just a small part of the changes. All this because of mods.
yeah its good to be a PC gamer, even if you have to wait for consoles first, its worth the wait.

[citation][nom]snapple232[/nom]I'm sorry but what a stupid and narrow-minded comment. And I say that as a lifelong PC gamer. The sooner these new consoles come out, the better the graphics will be in our PC games. Not everything in life has to be reduced to some zero-sum "us vs. them" mentality.[/citation]

A 5770'ish in consoles sure as shit won't help us. Down with consoles.

well, at least game ports will fully support DX11.
console gamers really do have low expectations.
