Wrong forum? What does this have to do with Windows 9?

I'm mostly satisfied with Windows 8. It seems to run faster than 7 and recovers well from crashes and power outages. 2 Issues I dislike about metro. 1.) When I insert a Thumb Drive and need to attach items to an Email it opens them with MS Picture Viewer which of course closes the desktop and runs in "space" or whatever metro is. Then when I'm done with these often secure documents and need to delete or secure them they seem to be permanently available to the metro apps. This is a serious problem because many of these docs are confidential.2.) switching apps via Alt-Tab will randomly launch the metro version which I don't think can be closed and just wastes resources till I reboot. I'm an old timer. I'm used to shutting down everything to try to get my 10 yr old PC to run a game smoothly. I only have 4 gigs of ram and a core 2. I don't want resources running metro search and IE running while Skyrim stutters along.. =P

All they really need to do is finish the OS as a touch OS and drop all Win 7 references. People who want Win7 have it. The problem is Win8 is unfinished with one foot in the past and one in the future

I think it is wise for Dell to release such a 30Hz UHD monitor. The reason is simple, DisplayPort is not mature enough for 4K 60Hz. By the end of this year, DP 1.3 will improve 4K a lot. However, what I care about is how much difference does this monitor have when I stare at it for a long time.

As long as they don't remove the new features Windows 8 introduced, then I'm interested. There's no reason we can't have the full package to fit everyone's needs. I actually like Windows 8 but I mostly understand the reasons to initially dislike it.

Sorry Microsoft, You only get so many chances.. And with your terrible release of Windows 8, once again i was shaking my head at you, and when i thought back, i realized that's all I've ever done with you. So I decided enough is enough, and I washed my hands of windows forever. I downloaded for free, and learned how to use Linux, and my god, I'll never look back!! Good luck pushing out your next debacle...

Windows 8 has made MS a competative alternative in phone and tablet environment. It has been very good deal to MS so far!
If you mean the desktop... well MS don't need win8 to win in desktop, because they allready have very succeful win7.

Summasummarum. Win8 has been succes to MS. (It could have fared better in desktop, but little improvements in win8.1 and 8.2 will bring it closer to win7 and it is enough! Win 8 will soon be the second biggest desktop OS. And when win7 will be phased out it will be biggest with win9 so MS will have the same UI in desktop and mobile environment. Just like they hoped for. It just takes more time than they were antisipating.
(and it has nothing to do if the win8 is good or not...)

Windows 8 has not been a success. It has been a dismal failure. PC shipments are stagnant and have been for years now. In fact, HP just announced that they would start offering Windows 7 again by default on PCs ordered from their website due to popular demand.

Well it depends on how do you measure it 🙂
As I said it has been quite good for MS mobile department, not for desktop...

Windows 8 is alright. I like it a lot. What I do not like is the Price. Thankfully I bought my only copy when it was like around $69 or so for Pro. Now it is $199. That is insane Especially for those struggling in this economy nowadays. I know that the regular copy is only like $119 but that is still high for many people. I personally know many people that have not upgraded because they can't afford it. Even when it was at the Promo Price they couldn't. I am sure that was the case for so many other. Especially since many people had just started getting into Windows 7. Anyways Microsoft just seems to be greedy in my opinion. I know the Prices of the earlier OS's were high as well, but really they could have stuck with the promo Prices and done very well. I am sure they would have sold a lot more copies of it if they did. Selling more copies eventually adds up to more profit.Anyways... If this new Windows cost as much as 8 does now, $100 to $200, then I probably will not get it. No matter how good it is and what new features it may have. I'll stick with what I have and just reused it when the time comes to upgrade my hardware. That is basically what I do now with my older copies of Windows. I have actually already done that with this copy of Windows 8 since I had to RMA a mobo that went bad on me.

Excellent point. I've never understood how they justify $100 for the OEM copies much less the more expensive retail copies. At those price points, upgrading Windows becomes something most people avoid if they don't have to. That's why people aren't upgrading from XP or 7 to 8 like they expected. The perceived benefits just aren't there to justify the price for most people.

It's not so much that Microsoft is greedy as it is that they rely on this business model to survive. The problem is, it is outdated in a world where computers are not upgraded every 2 years or so like they used to be as hardware has caught up with software. People aren't buying new computers and therefore aren't upgrading the OS. As a result, MS has to come up with gimmicks like the Win 8 metro UI to try to convince people to upgrade.
