Minecraft server costs

My friend wants me to buy Minecraft. He said he will rent a server that will cost like $1 a month. I looked a little into it and I don't think he knows what he is talking about. If you rent a cheap server, how good of quality will it be? Thanks in advance!

Minecraft servers are expensive if you want quality, but they have come down in price a lot. He might be looking at $1 per person on the cheap side, Those servers have limited ram and low tik rates. I found a server for 1-5 players so thats not bad.

So are the worlds smaller and less stuff in them? Because he wants me and another friend to get it also.

Minecraft takes its toll mostly on the cpu while having a server host do it for you I would recommend at least 2gb ram for vanilla version and 4gb ram if you plan on playing minecraft with mods
