Mixing without SLI

Hello,
I have a GTX 580 and I want to do some development using an "ordinary" graphics card in the same box with a second monitor. I would like to use the second card for editing code, etc., and put the main Windows interface on it. Is this possible, and are there restrictions on the second card?

I think it is possible I just wont run as well as the other card, and will suck up power too. Just plug in the monitor to the 2nd card and you should be good to go, You could also run 2 monitors of 1 card if you want to.

With windows 7, there is no problem with installing multiple graphics cards and multiple graphics drivers.
