Hey peeps,

A friend asked me to upgrade his PC but with all those different CPUs and GPUs out there there it's a bit too much choice for me.

I want to assemble new system for about € 500 that will reuse the case, PSU (650 Watt) and storage that'll be connected to a full-HD monitor.

The current setup is an Asus P7P55D with a Core i5-750, Radeon HD 4770 and 8GB DDR3 @ 1066 MHz and it should be able to run games such as the Anno 1800 series smoothly on high settings (link).

Brands and such do not matter and if possible a 5 year future proof build for general use (surfing and some document editing) would be appreciated!

Thanks a bunch,

Wimpers

PS: I live in Belgium, Europe. So prices are higher then in the US...

I came up with a build too, though it seems to be fairly similar to these others that have since been posted. : P

In my case, I went with the 2600X...
What is the exact model of the power supply?

Does your existing pc have an SSD? I would consider adding one if possible.

If the PSU is any good, this setup is good.

For the CPU I went with the Ryzen 5 2600, which is now a generation old, but for the price it would be very hard to do better. It is on a B450 motherboard which supports CPU upgrades to the latest and greatest of today from AMD if an upgrade needs to happen before 5 years is up. The standard for a new system is 16 GB of RAM. I'd have liked to go with faster RAM, but the 2666 DDR4 is just fine. I went with the RX 580 as there really isn't anything better in this price range and it should run just about anything at 1080p high settings.

Yeah, now Windows 10 is installed on a 128 GB SSD and there are like 3 more TB's of conventional HDD storage in it too but not in a stripe.
The PSU is a Cosair TX650W.

In my case, I went with the 2600X, since it was just 5 euros more than a 2600 based on current pricing at these retailers, which is arguably worth it for slightly better out-of-box performance and a better stock cooler.

The motherboard is one of the least expensive B450 chipset models, which should be fine as far as performance goes.

For RAM, it's currently the least expensive 2x8GB kit of DDR4-3200. Ryzen performs best with faster RAM, so it's arguably worth paying slightly more for 3000 or 3200 speed.

And for the graphics card, I went with the lowest-priced RX 580. An RX 580 should be about 15% faster than an RX 570, and should meet the requirements listed there for 1080p 60fps. This model of RX 580 was priced lower than the others though, and I don't know how common that pricing is in Belgium, or otherwise how these listed retailers compare, for that matter.

With these similar builds, I think you should have a good idea of what's worth looking at within this price range though. A 6-core Ryzen 2600 or 2600X, B450 motherboard, 16GB of DDR4 RAM and an RX 580 or perhaps an RX 570 would likely be good options for the money.

Thanks for the info guys, I went for a Ryzen 5 2600X, a Radeon RX 580 4GB and 16 GB DDR4-3200 and a motherboard with a B450 chipset.
Once you know the CPU substype and chipset combination it gets quite lot easier... :p
