Question Modem randomly stops communicating with router (xfinity) IP issue?

Running on xfinity high speed internet in the U.S.

So here's what happens.. Our modem will randomly stop communicating with the router, kicking off all wireless devices, and devices wired to the router lose all connection.

We have tried with both the xfinity modem router combo, as well as our own compatible modem with a netgear nighthawk router.

Here's what happens with each set of equipment:

Xfinity modem router combo: all devices disconnect, including wireless and wired.

third party modem with netgear router: all devices disconnect, including wireless and wired. HOWEVER, you can wire directly to the MODEM and receive internet.

The apartment was wired by xfinity. They sent a technician but he was unable to address the problem.

Super strange. It could be the very improbable luck of having a bad xfinity unit and having a bad router of your own, but that's the only plausible idea.

The tech shouldn't have left if you have their modem/router installed and it's not working though. I would keep calling them to fix that. Then if that works, your own setup should work too.
